Question Do you have flood insurance ?

This is a poll just to find out how many people on this site have or are supposed to have Flood Insurance ?

Please respond by : City , Town or village.(no personal info needed.)

Hundreds of new and older homes in Lancaster - if financed are required to have flood insurance .

If your home is paid for ( besides being lucky) you have a choice to have it or not.

Average cost in lancaster is $550-600.00 a year.

    How about your area?

I am forced by my bank to have flood insurance - it has never covered anything and I believe it should be a matter of personal choice.

None of my properties in the City of Tonawanda or Niagara Falls need flood coverage. Check out the 100 year flood maps if you want to see who needs it (cazenovia creek area, if memory serves).

Sorry I should have been a little clearer - People outside the recently in the Buffalo News - Cazenovia Creek is a given.

It is a matter of personal choice.

But the bank also has the personal choice to not lend money to someone who won't adequately insure their collateral.

I have it. The real kicker is that the insurance doesn't even cover the basement. The water would have to rise to the first floor of the house before I could see a dime.
State Farm is by far the cheapest we had found. USAA offered it at almost twice the price.
I'm not positive, but I thought it was a Federal mandate if you lived in a 100 year flood plain? Even if your home was paid for I thought it was mandatory? I would hope I'm wrong on that though.
