3 Holiday Hazards
Every Pet Owner Should Be Aware Of

The winter holiday season is a joyous time for families of all sizes. But it can also hold some hidden dangers to the four-legged critters in your household. Keep your pets safe this season by being on the lookout for the following holiday hazards.

Decorations
Pets are curious by nature, and can find things you may not even notice. Watch out for low hanging ornaments (including tinsel and garland), tabletop knickknacks that could be choked on, loose electrical cords, open flames, and holiday houseplants.

Food
Feeding table scraps can cause stomach and intestinal upset. Additionally, certain foods are toxic to pets – chocolate, macadamia nuts, raisins, and alcohol should be kept away from pets.

Weather
Pets can develop hypothermia if left exposed to extreme cold, rain, snow, or wind. Be sure to provide adequate shelter or bring your pets in from the elements. Ice can pose slipping, falling, and laceration hazards. Clean up any antifreeze spills – most formulas are toxic to pets.
