Anybody know a good place for 20 or 30 round mags?
I don't care if they are polymer or steel.
Thanks
There's that one on Seneca. And, maybe the one on Main St. Been a year or so since I've been to either, but I remember seeing them having a couple.
Like I said, I could be wrong. All of them I've seen always said "For Law Enforcement or Military Use Only" stamped on them
Raptor Jesus: He went extinct for your sins.
20 and 30 rounders have to be preban, aka made before september 1994
that rules out almost all the polymer ones except thermolds and orlites neither of which are all that good

Any mag over 10 rounds is "illegal" in a gun manufactured after 1994 in NY State, unless its a tubular magazine in a .22.

For some rifles the mags had different colored "followers*" installed at the factory - during the ban restrictions. You have to see what year your rifle was made and what was factory provided at that time.
Now, don't misunderstand this next part - go to the ATF website and educated yourself.
Your rifle, if it can "accept" a multi bullet magazine - referred to as "High Cap" - you must know the law. They are now fighting to ban anything that fits that description - "Ability to accept a high cap magazine"
If your rifle can accept these mags - 5-10-20-30 rounds "You can own them" - but you cant carry them loaded - you cant have them inserted when not in use, if loaded - you need to check local laws that may prohibit there use.
Its confusing, thats why even LEO's have a hard time with this issue.
"Followers"= the part of a magazine that actually follows the ammo - its the plate resting on top of the mag spring. When unloaded(empty) you see it at the top - as you load the ammo into the mag - your pushing it down.
Those followers were colored in some magazines that were provided by the manufacturer with the rifle. Those are commonly called "restricted" mags. Those were provided to comply with the laws of that day.
The main thing to learn is the laws regarding "Configuration" of your rifle. Some call it the law of 3.
Pistol grip, bayonet lug, flash hider and high cap mag. I know, thats 4! Thats the point - if you have the first 3 - don't add the forth. They consider configuration when judging for legal standards. They aren't judging function or purpose - they judge appearance.
Be safe, know the law and be free.
PS - I am not a lawyer or agent of law enforcement - I advise everyone to read and learn the laws. None of my opinions should be regarded as "legal Quotes" -

Below is a photo of two such parts, "Followers"
Notice the green one on the left has a "Tang" that the black one doesn't!
STOP! - don't even think about removing or altering it!!!!!!!!!!
The color serves as a "Visual Clue" that this is from a "Restricted Magazine". The "tang" on the left - which would be under the "head" area of your bullet - is used to limit the travel downward. This reduces the available space in the mag well and reduces the number of rounds it will accept.
DO NOT REMOVE OR ALTER the follower. Thats against the law.
If you altered that magazine to accept more rounds you violated a few laws and made your future look mighty dim.
Lets say you have a AR style rifle - flash hider, bayonet lug and pistol grip style handle - now you slide your "Altered Restricted Mag" in - go directly to jail - avoid contact with other people!
Theres allot of "talk" about: Pre-ban, post ban, legal, illegal - it varies state to state and in some places county to county.
First things first: Document the year your rifle was made. Research the gun laws that relate to your style, year make and model.
When buying ammo at other than gun stores - make sure the cheap deal your getting isn't because its "Banned Ammo" - your responsible to know the difference. I was at a local show - I saw a guy with a table packed with bargain ammo - I walked over - looked - listened and asked questions.
The reasons it was so cheap was: It was loaded using "corrosive primers" - the shell casings were "Green" so they are steel and they are crap. The final straw was - it was "Armor Piercing" ammo - not a real good idea to own it in NYS. Any way - why would you want it - its crap and it can go throught a deer, then your neighbor and finally come to rest a mile away.
Know the laws, be safe and stay free!

My AR has a muzzle flash suppressor and a pistol grip but no bayonet lug. Does that mean I can put a clip on it that handles more than 10 rounds?

If your AR has no bayo lug - that means it was either removed or built during the era of restrictions. It most likely came with a restricted magazine. Could have been a colored follower or they also had mags with what looked like black plastic magazine sleeved area and the bottom was metal.
As I mentioned before - go to the BATF website read the rules on "Military style mags" -
It will accept high cap mags - yes - is it legal to possess them where you live - ?????????
I can only say - without fear of law suit - ask the AFT.
Any thing expressed here are my own statements - they are not the beliefs of the owners of this site -

the follower has no baring on the legality of the magazine, the date the magazine body was made does. the green followers came out for correct feeding problems
