    Smile Lucy Lincoln's Corner

Seems to be the wrong time of year--but I see brown moths flying around. Anyone know the best way to get rid of 'em? No mothballs, please. I have cedar chips, but anything else? Help!

are these moths mature pantry moths?

If so, I tackled the problem by storing flour in coffee cans.

I heard setting out a dish of sweet wine will help get rid of those flying little buggers

    OMG!!!

    I think those are them!!
I do buy dried fruit but I've stored stuff in plastic bags for years, just an old habit from living in apartments for years. Especially down south.
If I had to clean all of my wool clothing it would be very costly because it all has to go to the cleaners at the same time.
So I'll put out the sweet wine and once more I thank you, ragin.

I had a bat in the house yesterday. I have NO IDEA how it got in. We took it to the health departmetn to check for rabies.

That is amazing. Maybe he has been in the house and just now thawed out. Very unusual. Was he dead? How did you catch him?

Hey, I thought maybe you'd gone missing.

No, I'm just a working stiff now ...i have no time anymore

The bat was not dead. The only thing I can think of is that it got in through a basement crack and came up the heat vent. It woke my daughter up at 1 a.m. flying across her room (her door was shut). We found him hanging upside down on her curtains. Caught him in a box and taped it shut.

THAT is the scariest thing. We've had them too. I have a friend who also gets them and swears that the best way to capture them is with a lacrosse stick. I like to open the front door and they usually fly toward the fresh air and out. BUT, you have to find how they get in or they tell all their friends and return for a party in YOUR house.

Two years ago I was pruning my plum trees out back. Worked all day and didnt want to stop until the job was done. As dusk rolled in and I was pruning the last tree, I noticed this odd little branch pointing downward. Upon closer inspection I realized it was a bat. I fell out of the tree and ran inside.

Lucky fella, I almost cut off his legs

Italians don't kill moths because they believe that they're St. Anthony.

    myths and superstitions

Just reading about Italians...makes me think about my Filipino sister-in-law.

She would gasp in horror if I killed an ant in the house...she said it is a very bad thing to kill because you will have bad luck forever. She was a hoot!

Then, there was this thing about opening all the windows in your house on New Year's Eve and put a bowl of large round fruit on your table. I forget all the details, but that's supposed to give you good luck all year.

I was on the level. However after having googled it and coming up empty, I have come to the conclusion that it's not so much an Italian thing, as it is a crazy in-laws thing.
