    Lawmakers claim charade in filling city's top police job

    Mayor Byron W. Brown announced in late December that he was dumping his police commissioner and vowed to launch a national search for a replacement.

    But nearly five months later, some Common Council members cite documents released last week to brand the national search a charade.

    No professional headhunter was hired.

    No documentation indicates that any paid advertisements were taken out in law enforcement journals to find candidates for the $116,989-a-year-job, even though the city's human resources commissioner recently asserted ads had been placed in such magazines.

    Yeah find a national replacement like R.Gil Kerlikowski for a few years then bye bye.

    Doesn't say much about the confidence in the rank and file.

    At least we can get our money's worth,,

    can we have a national search for the best candidates for all of our Public servants?

    I would think a local cop would be a better guy for the job

    Because sometimes, many times, these sorts of incestuous relationships negatively effect the culture of an organization. Particularly para-military organizations like the police.
