The Price of Oil - Louisiana is about to pay it

Louisiana 'Fishing Capital' Braces for Giant Slick

I lived in New Orleans in the mid 70's and worked in the oil industry. I was being trained to be moved to the east coast for the anticipated opening of the George's Bank to oil exploration. Fear of oil spills and environmental disasters kept that from happening.

One of my daughter's lives in New Orleans now so I have both a historical interest and personal stake in this new disaster.

who is to say it was an accident?

Given the track record of both the Federal Govt, and the News CORPORATIONS who is to say this was an 'accident'?

I just called it a disaster - which is what it is regardless of the cause.

Sad indeed and "they" want to drill off shore instead of looking for other options.

If you are religious you should see this as a sign from God.

Luke 11:29 ¶ And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

And therein lies the problem: we're NOT looking for signs. We don't WANT signs. Signs generally insinuate that someone's pissed off. Raise your hand if anyone here is really out to piss God off. As a globe, I'm fairly sure we'd much rather move along swimmingly without disasters, be they man-made, natural, or divinely caused.

But it's stupid not to read them when they come along (whether they be from On High or not).

(but going with your quote for a minute: which part of this represents Jonas?)

    Funny thing about these:

You never hear about them causing a 'wind spill.'

no, but start up costs are astronomical, and thus forces higher rates, however once they have been charging the higher rate over YEARS and its paid off, why lower the price?

Cover-ups abound in this disaster situation. We are being lied to daily. The local TV news didn't even cover it last night. The Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mary Landry lied to the American people. 24/7 visuals of the wellhead, yet the amount of oil gushing cannot be determined?

This spill is the responsibility of BP and Haliburton. Haliburton, of couse, is denying all charges and responsibility. The protection of Haliburton is the reason we're being lied to.

Shrimp are grown in 3rd world countries and imported to the US. Most are farm raised in pesticide polluted water and harvested by child labor under deplorable conditions. After I found out this information, I won't eat shrimp...even if it's free.

Actually over 70% of the shrimp we eat are harvested from the Gulf of Mexico. This disaster threatens a multi-billion dollar seafood industry and thousands of jobs.

That being said, even without the pesticide and child labor factors, I still won't eat them.
