Wow. How'd such a comic talent as Tim Wise fly under the radar for so long?
The dude cracks me up.
This is especially hysterical:
"And this, my friends, is what white privilege is all about. The ability to threaten others, to engage in violent and incendiary rhetoric without consequence, to be viewed as patriotic and normal no matter what you do, and never to be feared and despised as people of color would be, if they tried to get away with half the **** we do, on a daily basis."
OMG! Rhetoric without consequence?!?!?!?
Rhetoric defined as: 1.using language effectively to please or persuade
2. grandiosity: high-flown style; excessive use of verbal ornamentation; "the grandiosity of his prose"; "an excessive ornateness of language"
We wouldn't want that....that would be almost like uh, freedom of speech. I demand consequences to speech I don't like!
But, apparently these folks didn't get the memo about their white privilege:
"(White)Man Arrested for Threats to Pelosi for Health Care Overhaul"
http://www.bvblackspin.com/2010/04/0...ats-to-pelosi/
"Kevin Walsh (white) was a political prisoner held by the Secret Service for calling George Bush a War Criminal"
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...26tbs%3Disch:1
"(White) Man arrested for Barack Obama assassination threat
http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/...100143532.html
The list of white folks being denied their white privilege goes on ad nauseam:
-Philly man arrested in threat on Va. congressman
-Man Arrested For Threats Over Health Care
-Two Arrested After Obama Effigy Display
-etc.,etc.
And I'm not even going to go into the LA Riots, which were almost universally excused as a natural outcome to blacks real or imagined disenfranchisement with the system. A system, which, by the way, we the people put in place.
But why should Mr. Wise let facts get in the way of his rhetoric. Being a white guy, maybe thats his privilege too....
