    Windpower Development

With the comming of the windmills on the Brownfeilds of Bethlehem Steel land, I think the city sold itself short only recieving $100,000 a year for the project. With the city on the brink of a fiscal crisis much like Buffalo and the County one would think that this project might be the perfect oppurtunity to raise significant revenue for future development. With Mayor Polanski talking so many great things about the project, he really settled for the status quo instead of striving for excellence.

I do agree the windmills are a great project especially being built in Lackawanna, however the lack of future planning on the part of the Mayor's office and planning board (if you can even call it that) will lead to continued lack of financial instability in the city.

I read an article in the Buffalo News that said communities should expect approx $40,000 per windmill and that was backed up by info that it was the going rate in Lewis County (wherever that is). LA is only gettin 12,500 per windmill.

Let's say Buffalo had a vast tract of land that has billions of barrells of oil under it... they would lease it, and take a pittance of renumeration in return, while companies made Billions...

    Like the Niagara Power Project...
    like the WindPower Scheme...

BUFFALO HAS ZERO GUTS AND LEADERSHIP!

Buffalo should have set this up themselves, go into the power business and have a WICKED MAJOR tax write off.

    Instead, they were chumps!

Any bozo can open a store, diner in WNY and make $100K

but if they opened a WIND POWER STATION, they woukld have unlimited wealth, power, and access to more opportunities and a better hand.

WHY IS BUFFALO SUCH A "NO GUTS" TOWN!???

LOUSY MAYORS, DUMB CHAMBER BOSSES, AND NO GUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its long overdue for Buffalo & Lackawanna to merge

Its long overdue for Buffalo & Lackawanna to merge. Compared to Buffalo, Lackawanna has little to no influence at the state or local level....and merging with Buffalo can only improve that situation and bring attention to cleaning up those brownfields and filling them with new industry.

Okay. Now please explain to us how Buffalo, NY could have legally gotten control of a State project in Niagara County, NY.

When are the windmills in Lackawanna scheduled to go on line and start producing energy?

    lackawanna wind mill

A couple years ago I read that Lackawanna was going to acquire the land from bethlehem steel. I have been involved in energy management products since the 80s.

I called the City of Lackawanna, and inquired about the land. Whomever I spoke to pressed me for more information why I was interested in the land. I finally told him I'd like to build a windwmill project there. 6 months later I read about the wind mills coming to Lackawanna. Obviously Lackawanna is filled with glory grabbers.

I never did explain to the fool that I intended to build the wind mill system as a City owned generating system in order to reduce the cost of electricity to Lackawanna residents, and thereby increasing the value of property in Lackawanna.

Arcade residents own their own generating plant, and they pay 1/3 of what we pay for electricity. Lackawanna City could have had the same thing if not for the self-interested glory grabbers.

Are the Windmills making any money?

It seems that most of the time when I drive down route 5 heading to Buffalo. I see the giant windmills standing still. Can these giant fans make energy when they are not turning? When do they spin? Is this project making any energy or money? Or will it become another white elephant?

Angry Windfarm developers being investigated by state attorney general

By Tom Precious - News Albany Bureau
    Updated: 07/15/08 1:57 PM

ALBANY — The developer of the big wind turbine project in Lackawanna is under investigation by state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo for possible improper dealings with local government officials.

Investigators with Cuomo's office served subpoenas on the companies, trying to determine the validity of allegations that they may have improperly sought or obtained land use deals with both private landowners and public officials. The probe is looking at whether the wind generation firms gave "improper benefits" to local government officials, according to Cuomo's office.
