The University at Buffalo has taken the next step in expanding its reach in the community by announcing a partnership with the Buffalo City School District.

The partnership, fueled in part by a $485,000 two-year grant from the John R. Oishei Foundation, will put UB's expertise to work at improving results for more than 36,000 students in the city's public schools.

In announcing the partnership, UB President John Simpson and Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent James Williams both noted its potential to become a national model for university collaboration aimed at preparing students to be successful in the 21st century.

The goal of the project is to better prepare students for subsequent grade levels and create a solid foundation for advanced study. The ultimate goal is to increase the number of high-school grads both interested in attending college and ready to be successful in jobs
