Tests show private schools pay dividends

Ask any parent who sends a child to a private school what makes the tuition payments worthwhile, and they're likely to cite several reasons.
Smaller classes. Individual attention. School uniforms. Religious instruction. Family tradition.

But do all those things really add up to better academic results? In the early years, not necessarily. By the time children reach eighth grade, though, most private schools in Erie and Niagara counties have a passing rate on state tests that's 20 points higher than children in public schools, a Buffalo News analysis found.

Hey if you want to give federal tax incentives to offshore and outsource our jobs....and throw it in our face that we need more education to compete globally then get rid of the main impediment to world class educationL public schools

parents who send their children to private schools have already shown that they care for their children. and are willing to pay extra to make sure they get educated. the schools them selves might not be the reason these kids do better maybe its the parents who are involved in their children's education. the easy way is to let your kid go to the day care baby sitting service that is called public schools. you dont have to do anything except get them on the bus in the mourning and you get a day without them. many parents have to drive their children to private schools and even help out once and awhile. parent involvement is the biggest aide to education you dont spent all of that money on a kid if you dont care.

Granpabon and I don't usally agree on much..but he is right in this case...Parent involvement is key but it seems noone really wants to look at that part of the picture...it's easier to blame everyone else.

Well DUH! Of course we need School Vouchers and School Choice in Buffalo

Well DUH! Of course we need School Vouchers and School Choice in Buffalo

We will never break the cycle of poverty with public schools
We will never allow our kids to compete in the global marketplace with public schools

Public schools have a monopoly on our school taxes and as a result have increasing labor costs (salaries and benefits and retirement), increasing labor rules and doing little more than warehousing kids without any life lessons in morality, ethics, respect, civility, etc.....Rumores response is its not the teachers job.

But hey, Ima bit of a hard ass.....any kid that doesnt show up for school gets a police office visiting their home to vrify their absence...and any kid misbehaving or having failing grades is awarded a social worker who can remove the child from their parents household and with that removal is any social assistance to their parents/guardians. Once that lesson sinks in, I think alot of parents would take their parental responsibilities more seriously!
