Higgins: Perry complex needs rehabbing, not razing

Scrap your plans to tear down those rows of empty, rundown apartments in the Commodore Perry complex, Rep. Brian Higgins is telling Buffalo’s housing agency.
Instead, give developers a chance to renovate the apartments that can be rented to low- and moderate-income tenants, and perhaps provide some market-rate housing, too, he said.
“It could be not-for-profits, private developers, could be partnerships. It could be a group of developers,” said Higgins, D-Buffalo. “These guys understand the market and know what works. You are looking at unique housing. Let’s just see what happens.”

This is interesting. When is it better to just demo a building versus rehabbing what is there. These are not "historical" in my opinion.

High talker Higgins' rant about rehabbing a government sponsored ghetto is just another salvo in the generations long effort by white largely suburban liberal Democrats to regain and maintain control of the minority population that they formerly owned as slaves but who were freed by Abraham Lincoln and the Republicans 150 years ago. They know they can't "own" minorities anymore so they have taken steps over the generations to restrain minority opportunities for true independent advancement, e.g. destroying inner city neighborhoods and building government controlled ghettos, white liberal Democratic teachers unions literally destroying city school districts to prevent academic achievement for minorities with all the liberating benefits that achievement brings. The high talker knows the game just like the late Judge Curtin did. Keep them down, down, down as long as you can as much as you can and maybe you can continue to control them. For all their talk their acts speak for themselves; Buffalo, controlled by Democrats for 60 years is one of the most segregated, poorest cities in America.

Grumps comment is understood, & true in many ways. But Higgins all of a sudden has an interest in the Perry Projects ? I've been there many times in the past 30+ years, it needs to be demolished, but not for new housing, but clear out the area, the new stadium (LOL ) would be nice there, as I believe this would become high end condos, townhouses, etc. for the rich & famous, the poor will continue their eastward travels thru Buffalo, etc. Higgins just wants to appease his rich folks that donate to keep him entrenched in office, just IMHO...

What about ripping the projects down and building these?

I know there might not be the profit the politically connected developers would like but that is not anyone's concern.
