    Vallely gains state recognition

    Lancaster Bee report

Michael Vallely, superintendent of the Lancaster schools, has been named 2017 Outstanding Superintendent of the Year by the New York State Association of School Business Officials.

According to a press release from the district, the award is presented annually to a superintendent who “demonstrates exceptional support and appreciation for the role of the school business official and their contributions to a well-run school district.”

During Vallely’s tenure as superintendent, Lancaster has ranked within the top five school districts in WNY for cost effectiveness and administrative efficiency by Buffalo Business First, with the district being ranked number one in those categories several times, the release said.

While many local school districts are facing program cuts and layoffs due to budgetary shortfalls, Lancaster has been able to continue a full slate of extracurricular and sports activities, a robust K-12 music program that includes a national-class marching band, and successfully planned for facility maintenance and improvement over two capital campaign projects, according to the release.

Vallely began his career in Lancaster as assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and pupil personnel in 2006.

Prior to that, his experience included work as a teacher and principal in other school districts. Vallely was appointed to his current position as superintendent in 2013.

The award will be presented on June 6 at the annual NYS Association of School Board Officials Educational Summit in Lake Placid. The award includes a $1,000 donation to the district to use to purchase equipment or fund a scholarship.

This must come as a bitter pill to the three losing anti administration school board candidates and their supporters; and most likely contributed significantly to them having their asses handed to them in the recent election.

An appropriate exclamation point confirming the voters' wisdom, and emphasizing their message!

The ladies must have missed this announcement.

The Facebook, "Lancaster Kids First", indicates that it will "...highlight the great things happening in Our District..."

One would think that this announcement would be worthy of their mentioning and posting.

"Let's move forward to continue to make Lancaster great for our children now and for the future generations to come!"

This type of honor signifies the incredible leadership that we enjoy in Lancaster with Dr Vallely! And the support demonstrated by the community will insure this leadership will be maintained, much to the benefit of our children.

I guess this oversight cements the lack respect and downright disrespect of the three ladies regarding our superintendent.

Luckily, the community saw through the charade

To quote #1: Great things are in the eye of the beholder. But, we may be dealing with "Three Blind Mice."

To quote #2: The forward motion must have had an expiration date of May 16, 2017, 9:00 p.m.

I guess their interest and commitment were fleeting. Or perhaps they "didn't have the time" to respond, like voting on previous budgets.

Yes, this community has shown it can see the forest through the trees.

The school district had the announcement out a week before the election. Wonder what took the Bee so long?
