Oh my, are the coyote's out in your area that it would pose a problem? We have coyote's too, but during the day haven't seen them. I would think that the coyote's would not be able to get into your fenced in area, but I don't know.

    I'd run!!!!!

Anyone can take on a coyote in hand-to-fang combat (Well, most) and come out ahead. They usually run alone, or with one other.

To avoid a fight, make yourself look as big as you can, and as deep a voice as possible, yell. It'll usually spook them, and they'll bolt.

Do not back down, whatever you do.

Coyote aren't aggressive, from what I've read. I lived in the Adirondacks. We had lots of coyote and coy-dogs. They never bothered anyone, they just made a lot of noise.

Break out the shotgun and drop it in it's tracks.

    Thumbs up

FMD - you are hilarious. You win my award for having the most amusing problems.

PS If the yard is fenced, are the coyotes really going to be a problem?

You're in CA? I assumed you lived in WNY.
Or, are you saying that you've ridden there so often, that you've had fights with coyotes - and fought them, stared them down, etc.

I'll agree with the coyotes generally not bothering people, although a friend of the family was nipped by one in North Tonawanda. (http://www.speakupwny.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56287)

I do have quite a few coyotes out by me, I hear them at night. I have a resident fox in my yard that I have caught on camera. He wouldn't be there if the coyotes were on my property as residents. I will disagree on the coy0dog part. Experience from friends and neighbors have taught me that they are unpredictable, fighting their own confused nature.

My ex-husband's beagle was killed by a coyote in Newstead a few years ago. He didn't have his shotgun with him.

They are a canine. They will jump fences and dig under them if they think there is a food source. Anything from a garbage can to a housecat is food to them. No cat wisecracks now!!!!!
