"Sprawl" as its called is nothing but decisions made by people about where they chose to live. Typically, those who oppose "sprawl" oppose people's right to choose and , instead, want to impose their choices on the entire community. A lot of the people who oppose "sprawl" are Green types. I prefer "watermelon" types, green on the outside, red on the inside. It should come as no surprise to anyone that, upon the breakup of communist hegemony over Eastern Europe, many CP members joined the Green Party. They share the same goals, using the power of the state to dictate the lives of others, by force if possible.

But I did read an article about the proposed subway extension into Amherst. As the old grump previously reminded people, this is not a mere street paving job. According to NFTA it would be a 10 year project; that's a decade of job killing, business killing, transportation killing disruption. Streets torn up for years on end, classes disrupted at UB as they build this idiocy right through the academic heart of the Amherst campus, ripping out millions and millions of dollars of road improvements recently made on Maple and Sweet Home roads. All in all, exactly the type of Democratically inspired, private sector killing project meant to provide a few dozen more jobs for public employee union ticket takers...that's the "economic development" that NFTA is offering.

It will create jobs... are you anti-job? Are you are going to deny the developer's profits on this project? You are anti-business!!!!

I see where you are coming from. Usually the only people who would push a project like this are the ones who profit from it. Screw the people it really effects while being built. You never make up for the loss of business the project created.

QUOTE=jennifer7;1715416]Shouldn't take 10 years (2027) to build a light rail extension. Last week ADOT just announced a another Light Rail extention to South Phoenix and it will be completed by 2022, The Valley Light Rail system opened in 2009 and already completed 3 extensions, 2 more extentions are under construction and the Gilbert Rd extension will be completed in 2018, Also Sky Train opened in 2013, one extention was already completed and another extention is under construction, A Street Car System (similar to light rail system will be breaking ground soon & a high speed rail system is shovel ready, just awaiting funding, but first ADOT is building 5 new freeways before they start building phase 1 of high speed rail. Also the Light Rail & Sky Train are connected and the Street Car System & High Speed Rail will also be connected[/QUOTE]

The Federal Government just approved Million's in funding to build the Street Car Line because it was already shovel ready Not 10 years away or just a pipe dream
