Should we build a new downtown Bills stadium and where?

BuffaloRising had a great post on a new football stadium and I thought SUWNY deserved to have its own discussion regarding the subject from the Bahumbuggers to the RahRahBoosters.

The consensus is opposed to it being on the waterfront...to much dead space and frigid lake winds and ice.

Its pretty much logical that any new football stadium should be connected to light rail and many people like that segment of the light rail airport corridor between the Larkin District and the Central Terminal or between downtown and the Larkin District.

Another interesting comment is that before we allow Canadians to move the Bills to Toronto we should improve our transportation and make it faster and easier for Canadians to come here negotiating faster border checks, extending Hamiltons HS Rail to Buffalo, expanding our light rail, expediting our Peace Bridge Expansion, etc. (There are more Canadians coming to Buffalo for sports and entertainment than Rochesterians). By improving our light rail, rail, bus and bridge crossings we could bring anywhere from 5,000 to 15,000 Canadians per home game and the Bills could be the team of WNY and Southern Ontario.

Im not going to summarize all the comments from BR, its time for you to say what you think.

Short answer: No new stadium, any place.

Ralph Wilson's heirs will surely sell the team to the highest bidder, and it isn't likely that the highest bidder would be here. Then the Orchard Park Bills will move.

No more of "us" building expensive venues for private business; if the owner wants one, he should build one on his own.

Maybe we can build an ultramodern, superefficient factory & invite Toyota to set up shop for $1 per year rent; at least that would provide good jobs for many families, instead of huge incomes for a few 'pro' sports players.

No, under any circumstances.

so what if we have to root for the L.A. Bills I cant afford to go to a game now. and with all the drunks at the stadium I dont want to go. I dont go anywhere that my wife and grand kids would not fit in. and the Bills promote drinking so much that no family should ever go there

Put it in Elma next to the new K-Mart.

No one will buy the team because they'll be nailed by the revenue sharing(lack of).... it'll cease to exist or one of the local billionaries(Jeremy Jacobs/ Galisano/etc.) will have to buy in or we'll be on the short list for an expansion(either us or Toronto). We wouldn't have had this problem if they built it downtown, domed, like the people wanted it.
