I have always wondered about that and didn't know how to find out. Does anyone know if there is a salary related to being a Cheektowaga School Board member and if so, what is it?
Thanks,

My understanding is that school board members do not get any compensation. It is strictly a voluntary elected position.Quote:

I think some city school boards in NY get paid. I believe Buffalo's Board members get a small stipend (like $5,000.) As for suburban schools, the answer is no. Generally a thankless job without pay. True public servants, unlike most of today's elected officials.
Have you thought about contacting the HR department of the school system and asking them?Quote:

I never thought of thatQuote:

Although, there are many board members and many layers in place to control any potential abuse of these positions.
I have no problem if a family member works in the same school district as the school board as long as that person is the most qualified person for the position. I know in my school district that there is a screening and interview process that recommends to the board a specific candidate. The board then reviews their qualifications and resume to determine if the person is a suitable appointment.
AldenBob, was this daycare the only one who applied for the job? Were they the most qualified? There are a lot of factors that go into a decision, not just a person or companies last name. There may also be instances where family members are not appointed to positions because they are not the most qualified. A person could make the claim that the process discriminated against them because of their last name too.
Just some food for thought.
Very seriously, how many larger accredited childcare companies are there in Alden that could handle a large number of children?Quote:

Yeah, let's pay them. That has worked out real well for our town, county, state and federal elected officials have done an amazing job for us, while earning a salary based on our tax money.....
Giving them money will also include them in the State Retirement system. The costs would be unbelievable if every school board member were paid for their service. It would also make things more political and contractors who do business with the schools could contribute to specific candidates campaigns. Creating even more conflicts of interest.
Maybe those who complain about school boards should run for a seat on the board. Seriously, at least half the people last year were unopposed. It is a thankless job in that they don't get paid, but have to deal with many questions and concerns. These people do it out of public service, unlike many PAID politicians!
I cant argue your points with you. I am just tired of the same old crap. We have to increase your taxes because it is for the children. We have to shrink the class sizes because of your children. If we are going to make it about special interest then lets make it about that. How much worse could it really be Just a thoughtQuote:

The truth of the matter is the superintedent of schools controls just about everything that goes on in the school. If he doesn't bring it to the table the board cant vote on anything. The power the board has, is only wanted he wants to give the shool board. If you have a great super you have a great school district, if not we have a district in trouble.Quote:
