You wouldn't believe how filthy some peoples computers are. I have been saving photos of dusty computers..... I think one day I'll post them all up.

Who cleans computers? The only time I ever blow mine out is when I open it up to put in a board or such.Quote:

If that computer is looking for a date, I've got a baseboard that has similar features.
You dare call that filthy? I recently serviced a P2 box someone had bought new. Total times opened 0. Problem: Wouldn't power up. Solution: remove 4inches of dust off CPU Fan Heatsink stack, remove glorp from PSU. Replace PSU, shop-vac bench area, floor, everything. End: Impression of Bigfoot ended by removing articles of clothing and being forced to shower to remove glorp covering self.Quote:

Oh the fun.

And how many people actually do that? Or, knew that they should?Quote:

Thats nothing the place I work at used to be a foundry and has a lot of black dust. One day I had to open up a server that we had running for years and found about a inch of black dirt in the case and on the mother and daughter boards.
Tell me how I should clean my pc. I have had the side open when I first got my tower last year because I had some problem. The Gateway tech walked me through what needed to be done. But I don't know much about cleaning it. Should I vacuum it or use an air blower?
We have a medium-hair cat, so I only have to clean the computer on the days that end in 'Y'
I clean the outside but I dont take it apart and clean the inside. I didn't even think too. I hope I get the outside before i have to worry about the inside. I am always afraid if I let the back get to duty and filled with dog hair that it's a fire hazard.
Everyone should always peek inside and check the fans.... heat will ruin your computer.
depends... if it was just sitting an hour... if you had it doing anything much sooner...
I was told "we vacuum it out regularly" but once I saw.. "Shutdown because of cpu something or other..." I knew what was going on....
I have a CD somewhere of a lot more photo's of filthy computers... I'm gonna have to find it and put them up....
I'm guilty of not cleaning the inside of my tower, I figure my IS will be obsolete before the dust and fans burn it out.... Now what about laptops ?
I don't reset them. I occasionally re-seat them instead.
I use the basic stuff. I never noticed a difference with any of the compounds even when over clocking processors.

wow - now that one was bad!!! yikes..... anything crawl out?
No crawlies....... at least not this time. Dead beetles are gross... Took a long time to dry them out into husks...
Yikes again..... your gonna get sick working on these things... wear rubber gloves and a mask?
I clean mine about once a month, using a simple can of compressed air and a soft cloth to wipe off the larger fans' blades.
Even then it's shocking how much dust there is
A couple of weeks ago I had a laptop that I didn't even want to touch. They were telling me that the touchpad was giving them trouble. It had dried on food that was crusty. I told them I scraped off the dried off food and it works fine. The keys were horrible.
Most are not. Some people's machines are spotless while others are gross. I always clean my monitor. Finger prints would annoy me. Some computers have to be dust mite city. :)
I blow mine out about once a year, usually in the spring. However my case is pretty heavy, it makes moving it a real chore... I believe my tower tips the scale at over 50lbs... plus its massive... full tower server case...
YES! I keep forgetting to bring it over its been sitting in the white truck! Ill put it on my phone to do list right now so I dont forget AGAIN!
Yikes... I just repaired one the other day kinda like that...
Hey Tony, I know how to fix flat screen monitors now. I just repaired 3 of my dead Viewsonic monitors I had laying around with only 24 dollars in parts for all three. If you get a monitor in that will not power up but the power light stays on or blinks, let me know - I can guide you to a simple repair that you can do your self easily. Good money maker for ya. I need nothing in return. Just want to help a fella computer repair man out.
I won't do monitors or laptop screens anymore. I used to. I send people to a guy in west seneca for screen repairs. I have a flat screen sitting on the floor you can have. It flickers.
