Does anyone have a source for locally produced yarns? I called Elmwood Yarns, but they said they don't carry them due too many factors. Lexington coop didn't have a source either.
I've seen sheep shearing at many farmer's markets. A fair amount of people raise Alpacas and Lammas in the area. I can't believe how hard it has been to track down any local yarns.

Have you tried:
Have Ewe Any Wool? Yarn Shop
4551 Main Street - Snyder, NY 14226 - 716.839.7800
I know they carry handspun and dyed yarns, but I don't know if they are from local animals.

Didn't think of them. Thank you! Someone else mentioned in a PM Karma Knitting on Main St in Willimasville. I will try them both :)

The yarn is actually not for me. My Aunt wants to knit or crochet a blanket to send to relatives in Ireland as an exchange. They recently sent us some cashmere throws that were made in their town. The wool came from local animals, was spun and then wove all in their town. My aunt wanted to do as much of the same for them. I don't knit or crochet, I quilt. I thought it would make a nice present for her and maybe she could teach me.
I am in the process of turning one of the throws into a sweater coat for myself. It is turning out nicely :)

I quilt too :)
I went to a craft show that was held in a barn on Rt 77 in Darien. The was a vendor that spun her own wool from her sheep. She had some really nice wool socks that she knit from her wool. I don't remember her name (I know, then why mention it) but I do know that she's local. I would scope out the country craft fairs. She might be at the bigger ones, like at the fair grounds, but I doubt it. Good luck finding her, or someone like her. I'll try to keep a look out the next time I go to a craft show or quilt show. Quilt shows have custom dyed thread vendors. Maybe they could offer some help.

Thanks Mesue! You may have been at the Brickhouse fair. I know some ladies in that quilt guild. I will contact them to see if they can tell me what vendors were there.
Here's a quote for you, please note that there is no disrespect intended:
"Blessed are the piecemakers, for they shall inherit the quilts."

Koi, your such a nice person. I wish I had the coordination to knit or crochet. I have tried, to no avail. I tried knitting a baby blanket, a friend of mine taught me alittle enough to do a basic blanket. OMG you would think I made a little knot. It was horrid. Thus ended my yarn ~~days. I wanted to much to accomplish it. Oh well.
I admire people who have the coordination to knit or crochet.
You're from Ireland Koi?

Did you try a local Amish or Mennonite community?

I don't know how to knit or crochet, as I stated in a previous post. I do have the desire to learn the craft, though. I am not from Ireland, but my mother's family came here from Ireland. She still has many relatives living there.
