My family and I went to the Bills game tonight against the Bengal's. Losman needs to grow quickly if the Bills have any chance at a .500 season. The guy played horrible. Too many turn-overs. Our team needs major help. First we need an offensive line badly and then a decent quarterback. Any-one else have any comments?

no decent quarter back will ever come here until we have a line to protect them. its been bad since the Kelly years ended. and the future looks worse

Kelly wasn't that good when he started out here. Manning wasn't good his first three years in Indy. Elway struggled his first couple of seasons. There are so many others, I could be here all day. One thing is for sure, these QBs would not have been good without an O-line in front of them. As they developed, so did their O-lines. For JP to develope into something special he has to have somewhat of a O-line. Without one he looks like Rob Johnson. Without one his or any other QB's career will be a short, unsuccessful one.

One more, JP has to recognize the underneath coverage. He didn't last year and so far this year he still is throwing right to the other team. I lost count on how many passes were dropped by opposing defenders who were suprised he was throwing the ball right into their hands in that underneath, 5-10 yards past the line of scrimage, passing. He has to stop doing that or maybe the Bills need to junk those plays.

I didn't think JP played too poorly. The fumbles are bad and were the result of holding on to the ball too long. He just needs to throw it away or protect it better when taking a sack. Had he thrown it away and it was picked, we'd be saying he should have taken the sack. He got sacked/ fumbled, so we say he should throw it away. Those sack/ fumbles were a direct result of Losman holding onto the ball too long. He'll learn.
The interception was bad, but INTs are a part of football. The best thing a QB can do is shake it off. That's why Kelly would always clap after an INT. What are you going to do? He responded very well and hit Lee Evans on the next series for a 40+ yard TD strike.

It was a clear improvement from a year ago, where JP would one-hop screen passes to his receivers. When he didn't one-hop them, the passes would sail over the receivers' heads. Anyone who watched one game last year could see the obvious improvement. It was a giant step in the right direction.

They moved the ball against a first-string 2005 playoff defense. McGahee's best run wasn't his 61 yard dash, it was the run where he fumbled. He made three guys miss before being grabbed from behind and losing the ball fighting for extra yardage.

I watched Losman bounce a few balls to the receiver Friday night as well. We are really lacking at the QB position. How long did it take Tom Brady to get in shape for his take over. This Losman has been babied far to long for the money he is making. Step up or step out Losman.

Yep. And he played the DB on that pass, making it look like the exact same throw as the INT.

Also 100% true. Many of his hop throws are due to adimtted bad mechanics. They can be coached into positive plays.

Other positives

The first (47 yd?) pass to Evans, JP looked at Willis all the way out of the backfield, and turned a bit to the right and nailed Evans. Willis then blocked.

The only pass Royal caught was a 2 tight end set with Royal and Everett running across the middle with Everett 2 - 3 Yards deeper and behind. As soon as the ball was caught by Royal, Everett spun around and blocked his man out of the play. This is (Offensive) coaching that we haven't seen since Ted Marchibroda.

Watch for Kyle Williams on defense. No more "blitz on every play" scheme.

The team is rebuilding BUT we will see some improvement and way more consistency this year. 5 -11 is a possibility, 8 - 8 is the goal. 2007 could be big.

Just Think the Bills could have had Matt Leinart. A real franchise QB.
But No, they passed, because JP is their Man & they didn't want to hurt his feelings. Hell, even Blesdoe Looks pretty darn good last night, It's something about Buffalo with QBS & Coaches ............. & everthing else !

Why would the Bills take another unproven quarterback without seeing what the one they have can do? It wouldn't make sense.

Leinart could be another Peyton Manning, but he could also be another Ryan Leaf or Jeff George.

But then again, I realize Palm Tree is another alias of yours as you go from screen name to screen name badmouthing everything Buffalo. Grow up and get a life.

We've seen what JP can do! or well, actually what he can' t do !
He's very good on making excuses, I'm young, i'm still learning, I gotta do better, i'm still learning etc....
3 years later, if you don't got it buy now, you'll will never have it !
remember Rob Johnson!

He hasn't had a legitimate shot yet. How can he produce if he's sitting on the bench?
Brees was terrible his first three years, now he's a pro-bowler.
Favre was awful is first couple of years, and he's a future hall of famer.
Hasselbeck was labeled a bust and he just led Seattle to the Super Bowl.
Eli Manning was garbage his rookie year, but they played him and he took the Giants to the playoffs last year.
Tom Brady sat behind Bledsoe and never would have played if Bledsoe didn't get hurt. Now he's a three-time Super Bowl winner.

It's rare that a quarterback produces his first couple years in the league. Peyton Manning and Dan Marino types don't happen every year. So the Bills are giving JP his deserved shot. He's a first round pick, an expensive franchise investment. They'll see what he can do this year, and so far he's made dramatic improvements over last season.

Hey anybody remember this guy. He was in the league 3 years before he did anything productive...and he has a line....as well as a top notch running back..as well as a top notch TE and also a nice set of recievers.

Yeah Brees is a perfect example. San Diego drafted Philip Rivers because Brees was labeled a bust. Rivers held out, so Brees started... and became a Pro Bowl quarterback.
He should do well in New Orleans this year.

the brain for the game. Unfortunately, I do remeber Rob Johnson and JP shows similar bad traits. I don't think he has nor will make the transition to the speed of the NFL defenses or their schematics. Like Rob, he locks on too long to the primary receiver and lacks the check off ability like the previously mentioned successfully QB's. Most of them had adjustment periods learning the game and their respective offenses and/or suffer early rebuilding years.
Unfortunately for JP, the rebuilding year concept was eliminated through the aggressiveness of the free agent market which demands success at a greater rate. Add to that the overall lack of talent in the quarterback position and you don't have the mentor time while your team can still be competitive.
I hope I am wrong and JP proves to be everything they think he can be but I don't see it. His mobility is a needed plus but not enough. Just my opinion.
