The spin-off benefits of the makeover project have been exciting to watch.

School 77 is round the corner on struggling Normal Ave from the newly built house on Mass Ave & directly across from another rehabbed house profiled on BfloRising.

Give blood . . . & proudly wear an Exteme Makeover shirt!

BLOOD DRIVE
‘Extreme Makeover´fever inspires Red Cross effort

November 12, 2009, 7:08 AM /
More than 100 donors rolled up their sleeves Wednesday and volunteered to be part of the American Red Cross “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” blood drive to honor the Powell family, whose home is being reconstructed on Massachusetts Avenue.

The blood drive continues from 10 a. m. to 5:30 p. m. today and 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. Friday in School 77, 370 Normal Ave., a block away from the construction site. Photo ID is required. Donors receive lunch or dinner and a free Red Cross “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” T-shirt.

I wanted to donate blood before, but Red Cross has rules and regulations. They said NO. I was very disapponted. They wasted my time and didn't properly communicate. They should get to the point with questions right away when a donor shows up to donate his/her blood.

Just wondering if they follow the proceedures when they hurry up and take the opportunity while targeting volunteers.

They follow the exact same procedures each and every time they take blood. Even in a "hurried" situation like a natural disaster there are no exceptions. People who are regular donors are questioned as to any changes from the previous donation time. If there is any variable that may affect the quality of the blood or the health of the donor, no blood or components of blood will be taken.
