I have a 12 gauge, double barrel German shotgun that was my grand father's, handed down to my father and now to me. From family stories it came from Germany from an uncle after his time in WW2. The only marking it has is "Werzen", there is a lot of etching or engraving on it. Those gun people I have shown it to have been impressed. I have tried online searches to find out the value of this gun but have not been successful. Can anyone give me a good site to check the value of this or someone local who could help out.
I don't know if I would ever sell it given the family history but I would like to know what it is worth. Thanks

Its probably made in Werzen Germany. Is there any other words like "stuhl"
Don't fire it - the older shotguns actually used black powder shells.
Send me a message - I can identify it and get market value pricing. Theres more numbers and symbols - you just have to know where and how to look.
Don't refinish the wood - don't use anything abrasive on the metal parts - not even soft scrub or powdered cleansers.
Are the barrels solid steel? Any designs in the metal - any odd colors on the receiver - single or double triggers.

Its just amazing how many people are in this situation. They have hand me downs and need help getting information. I used to do the channel 17 auction gun appraisals and appraisals for private estates.
I saw a collection once, the guy kept about twelve shotguns under his coach. He never shot any of them. He was a wood carver and these old"Shotguns" were beautifully engraved and the stocks were carved.
One looked like the stock was warped, the rear but plate was turned toward the left shoulder.
Anyway when I saw them I was floored. He had whats known as "Drilling's" - drilling's come in many calibers and have two or three barrels fused together.
Most common are two twelve gauge chambers on top and a rifle cartridge under neath that. But as I said they came in almost every combination you could imagine or afford.
Many hand built in Germany by true craftsmen. The one he had with the "Warped Stock" was actually made as a left hander - for a rich left hand shooter. He wanted the gun in front of him as it appears to a right handed shooter, but his left hand pulled the trigger. One odd looking shoot gun.
Well if anyone has some old stuff lets talk about them.
:D
