Does anyone know who this band is?

Don't know their name, but they appear to be a band from around the 1930s with a steel guitar player-probably a blues band. What is the name of the photographer in the bottom corner?

I would guess it's some kind of gypsy jazz group from the first half of the century, perhaps a French group. Definitely not blues players, IMO. Especially if that picture was taken before the late 1950's. That's just not what blues musicians looked like back then.

The photographer's name is James Kriegsman , trying to dig up some info now on the 'net ??

The dude at the bottom left, I'm assuming he's the drummer as he's the only guy not holding an instrument, looks awfully familiar.

res, are these photos on "flickr" yours? Some really nice photos, one's like you post here on SUWNY, I found their photographer, can't find the name of their group, but it seem that James Kriegsman did a lot of Gospel groups & celebrity head shots......?????

res , where did you get the photo ?

Ontario Antique Mall past Rochester. We picked it up for a person who is opening up a Jazz club in Buffalo.

James Kriegsman is the photographer.

res, post #4......I already blew up the photo to see the name, but find VERY little on him? Seems he is linked a bit w/Gospel music? Would LOVE to know the name of the group, this is affecting my OCD!! No one in the group looks familiar, not like one singled away & became famous on his own? Must be a local WNY/Rochester connection, probably someone from the old "Colored Musician's Club" on Michigan (or Genesee St.) in the city may know ???

I believe I read that James Kriegsman got his start photographing bands at the Cotton club. Maybe this is one of the bands.

riv, we've ALL blown up the photo & know the name is the photographer & have researched the Internet like crazy to find any info on the who the band/group is, everything has come to a dead-end......:(

The person who we got the photo for said the guitar player is Ed Smith and he was from western NY.

:) Ed Smith, should be real easy to track down a descendant with a rare name like that, too bad it wasn't Ed Grzebielucha, HE I could find to find out the name of the group!! :D
