OK-

I got fisted on the initial reassessment. Now I hear that some more are being forced to grab ankle. I'm presently assessed at $86.59/ft².

My next door neighbor is at $71.89/ft². These are just examples, not extremes.

This process is obviously non-equitable and I'll wager they're doing everything they can to keep this from getting out publicly. So the question is this- anybody get a fair deal at a hearing? Did anybody take these bastards to court?

Bought my house for $54,000. -- they assessed it at $64,500.
Two years ago re-assessed for $94,000.
This time $135,000.

I guess thats just the cost of Good Government and all the extra help we get by building all these homes to help :
"Off-set the cost of Government and Services"
Quote MR.B.GIZA

Next election cycle, lets elect some bankers, lawyers and builders. Then we can get rid of the Planning Board ,Zoning Board and The Town Attorney. Wait, lets just let the Town Attorney become the Supervisor- Then we can save all that money and get the same quality government we have now!

Just a thought - could be wrong - i don't know - what do you all think.

Have a great 4Th of July - don,t forget to thank a Vet!

43% increase in two years? Give me a break. Either the first or both are bad.

Call the assessor's office and tell them you want a reduction due to the flyover traffic. That vapid whore wants 'market value' to be the determining factor, hmm? Fine.

Let her call her little assessment-buddies at GAR and get an explanation how constant flyovers improve real estate prices.

Probably. A guy I carpool with is thinking of going in w/me and getting bumper stickers printed up- they will read, "Another fine traffic jam brought to you the Thinkers that run Lancaster, NY" and handing them out at William and Aurora, Como and Aurora, and Central Ave during the morning and evening commutes.

Response : Please don't get me wrong ! I think its great to be able to pay my fair share of taxes.I hope all our elected and appointed Officials enjoy the benefits they receive for "Serving us." I wish all our "Part-time" officials and workers could receive Pensions, health care, eye and dental care.

I think we need to expand the patronage jobs here in town.I know its only a coincidence that most belong to the same political party.I know its just civic pride that keeps our elected officials in office - year after year after year.

I'm not familiar with your home but I am going to guess it's a ranch. Lancaster hit nearly all ranch style houses in the assessment reviews. This is very arguably a violation of Fair Housing Practices. I have talked to a few home owners who are looking to approach the issue as a group. If you would like I will try and locate an e-mail address for you.
I know for a fact that their is a licensed realtor on the board. My suggestion if you think you are outragously assessed, formerly submit a request for it to be lowered than list with that agent or his office. When they don't bring any offers, explain to them that you will be entertaining the local news with confusion on how a professional can back the value to tax you but falls short to bring an offer to validate their assessment.
I'm sure moving wasn't in your plans...however I'm sure if you truly believe you live in an $80,000 home...if they brought you $135,000 you would take it. You are only obligated to sell your home for the listed amount, any offer falling even a dollar short does not have to be acceptable. Good Luck

How many people do you all know that got assessed rather high?

Would be interesting to put up a pattern.

Our initial assessment in cheektowaga went from like ~110,000 ro ~162,000 in like 5 years. We fought and had it lowered some. I would be buying houses left and right if I know I could make $50,000 a pop after 5 years.

I'm also in cheektowaga...I own several homes all saw almost a 20% increase in the past two years which is townwide, so even though I think it bites, it seems to be my share.
Lancaster however was primarily the ranches, I know two people who were raised in excess of $100,000. What really cracked me up was the notice they sent around that stated re-assessment does not raise new tax dollars just redistributes tax dollars. Well, simple math would tell me that a lot of residents had their taxes lowered where are they??? If you tell me new revenue is not created than if you raise one 100 you obviously must lower someone 100. Yeah right.
I would be happy to help organize or pass contact information.
