Dear Neighbors,

After attending a council meeting in May to see for myself how our great city was being run I left disgusted by what I saw. With the turn out low and almost non exsistent I realized that the citzens voice was not being heard and never really taken into consideration. Some legitimate questions were being asked and the answers were hostile, downright indifferent or sent on a circle trip through many department heads. This is not benificial to our city or its people. After attending two more meetings I decided to run for third ward council as a candidate for the people not special interests and status quo.
I want to make government more directly accountable to the people.Nothing we're paying people in public office to do should be going on behind closed doors. We have to do whatever is necessary to eliminate back room politics and under the table wheeling and dealing. We need to create a climate in our city government where openness and honesty have a chance to flourish. In order to get our city government in the right direction,we need to have a lot of turnover. We cannot allow the same people year after year to get entrenched. Our city needs fresh ideas and constant turnover, otherwise the machine becomes a monster. Most important of all,we need to be involved every single one of us.I believe that with more involvement from our citizens our city can be a better more vibrant place to live and do business.
Our city is at a crossroads right now. Change is in the wind.I think recent events that happened in Washington are causing everyone to take a long hard look at what our city government has become. And now is the time to do something about it.Change starts at the grassroots level no election is too small.I am urging you all go out to a council meeting and school board meeting and see for yourself what is going on in our city, your voice no matter how small can make a difference.
In closing I have decided in order to make a difference I should lead in a new way one that has never been done here in Lackawanna. I have the support of everyone I am inclusive. I do not stand for just one party I stand for all PEOPLE in this great city. To show my love for this city I have decided to donate my entire city salary if elected to benifit our children by rebuilding the playgrounds and recreation programs that they should have.
I am hoping this letter is a wakeup call for our city's leaders and citizens as well. If we want to accomplish anything we must work together as one for the good of the people not our own interests. I sincerely hope I will see some of you at my fundraiser on Saturday September 26 at Jacobi's from 5 to 9 so I can meet with you and discuss more of my platform for our great city.I have decided to take a stand. The question is will you? Thank you all for your support.
Truly yours,
Dennis M. Mulqueen Jr.

Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world, indeed, they already have."

Nice letter Dennis and GOOD LUCK!

Or never underestimate the power of stupid people in groups... something like that.
