View Full Version : Takin' Notes Don't Count!

There's an article on this site that suggests that Councilman-elect Bill O'Laughlin could be viewed as keping his promise(s) because he's putting in time at public Town Board work sessions and he's takin' notes. What a crock! Someone, please find me a voter that voted for Bill O. in the hopes that he'd take notes. Ain't gonna find such a voter. People vote for someone to BE EFFECTIVE. Bill O. is miles from doing anything of the sort. When he gets something meaningful DONE, then I'll give him a thumbs up. Untill then, Bill is just takin' up space like most of the seven current Board members.

You have to give people a chance. Exactly how long has he held this position?

I know it's popular to just say "throw the bums out" but doing so when the guy's still three weeks away from taking office really takes the cake. The most obvious reason people voted for Bill O was that they knew his name or figured that a stick in the ground was better than Rich Wojtowicz. As far as I can tell *O'Loughlin* (Spelling someone's name right is a good start) takes notes in all his endeavors; from his career in finance and consulting which he's been wildly successful in, running the ECIDA, and campaigning so successfully that in his first try for public office he beat out two popular incumbents as the top vote-getter. I'm lucky to say I voted for him.

As for the issue of taking notes, O'Loughlin did pledge to work 200 hours between Nov. 4 and the new year finding ways to save money in the budget. Sounds like he's keeping his promise to me.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

What a silly comment to make when one has only had the position 3 weeks. Give the guy credit for taking the position. He's been rather effective in his past positions as Publius states.

Exactly what does a council person do work wise? How many hours a week should a councilperson put in to be effective?

I especially liked this part "Someone, please find me a voter that voted for Bill O. in the hopes that he'd take notes."

I hope every elected official takes notes to do their job to the best of their ability. How many successful people reading this know the importance of organization?

First of all he DOESN'T *have* the position yet. And that is exactly the reason saying he looks like he's keeping his promises is far far far too premature.

How many hours should a councilman work to be effective, you ask? Answer: As many as it takes. Simple.

Voters aren't going to give a damn HOW a representative gets the job done, the just want the guy to be EFFECTIVE. If taking notes is his way to do it, fine. But don't expect a thumbs up for the process alone.

Also comments about how noteworthy Bill O'Loughlin was at the ECIDA is among the most debatable comments I've heard in a long long time. Was Erie County a booming metropolis when he was at the ECIDA? Uh, I don't think so, dude.

Bill's success at being a financial planner in private practice translates to being a successfull and EFFECTIVE councilman exactly how? Maybe a lot like Schratz's barmaid experience has translated into her effectiveness - that would be zilcho.

Maybe Bill will be the second coming. Nobody knows. So the article that I initially referenced is still a crock in my eyes.

I thought that the above comment -- -- particularily the last phrases about him finding ways to find save money in the budget -- -- might be interesting to revisit.

Has O'Loughlin been keeping that promise? Is he keeping his word to find savings? I watch the board meetings and I don't see him bringing much (if anything) of the sort. I cannot honestly say that O'Loughlin has kept his word.

There is a posting attributed to me that is definitely not mine. I have reported it to the administrator. It really got me P.....d off that this can happen.

Deleted the post?!?!?!?!?!?

I realize this is off-topic for the thread, but posts if posts are being deleted, is it logical to assume that something somewhat sinister has happened with use of the "Dvoakley" screen name? If thatr's the case (and it sure sounds like it must be), what controls have been put in place to ensure that nothing similar happens? I'm sure that if something like this happened in local government, we'd all feel as if our leaders should act swiftly and definitively, right?

If, on the other hand, nothing unusual has occured with the "Dvoakley" screeen name, why delete the post?

Because he said he didn't post what was there and I didn't feel like arguing over it. I can't find anything sinister happening but wanted to be sure.

It's odd if a "hacker" was going to screw with the messageboard he would pick Dvoakley and happen to post a post that had content that would relate to something out of amherst.

Might there be someone in Dvoakley's household (or workplace) playing games with him/her?

I was thinking the same thing. Or a co-worker just steping up to the computer and typing something in behalf of the poster.

I don't know what happened but I reported it as I thought I should. The Admin took care of it and I'm satisfied. It's forgotten.
