What worries me is that Carolina has a good goalie, too. His initials are not R.E. as in Ray Emery and Robert Esche.

I'm not too worried about Cam Ward. He wasn't even their starter until he replaced a shaky Gerber. I'd rather face him than Brodeur. Cam Ward's on a hot streak right now, New Jersey's not an offensive team, and Jersey was coming off an unbelievable winning streak. You can't stay undefeated forever. The bounces eventually start going the other way.
The Sabres match up very well against the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes match up very well against the Sabres. Rod Brind'Amour, Erik Cole, And Eric Staal lead their offense, and I think their top two defensemen are Brett Hedican and Fran Kaberle. I think Cole is hurt right now.
If the Sabres can shut down the super firepower of Ottawa, they can also shut down the Hurricanes. I have total faith in our team, just like I did in August.
Bring em on!

How do you feel about facing Ilja Bryzgalov. Look at his playoffs numbers. Insane!

May 16th, 2006, 09:09 AM
That's my fantasy guy, right? The one who replaced Giguerre? He's been on fire. I haven't seen enough of him to form an honest opinion. I don't know if he's that good or on an unbelievable hot streak.
Ryan Miller lost six in a row in March. Does that make him a bad goalie? No, because he was on a cold streak.
Tim Thomas won six straight for Boston in January with three shutouts. Does that make him a good goalie? No, he was just on a hot streak.
So hopefully Bryzkalov is just really hot.
Who do you pick in the Oilers/ Sharks series? I know I wouldn't want to face Peca or Roloson in the finals. Peca's not the player he once was but I still respect him. Roloson I always liked. Plus Edmonton has history. So I hope the Sharks win the next two. I like our chances shutting down Thorton/ Cheechoo, and the Shark Tank is such a cool arena name.

Well, now, it's easy to pick the Oilers going into game six at Edmonton up 3-2. Yes, Ilja is you're goalie.

You forgot to mention there golie is also a ROOKIE however, I wish the Sabres all the best but I kinda believe Carolina will do more then dump in the puck. Yes, the Sabres have at least 6 guys scoring at different time but Carolina has a few more and they also do that niffty puck passing across the the goal line like we do...Yep, look into the mirror Sabres because you've met you match and #3 Playoff appearnece will go into history as a big loss like all the others have done in the past.

Published: Tuesday, May 16, 2006
Excerpt:
"It's the first time the two franchises will be meeting in the playoffs.
Carolina won the regular-season series 3-1, including a shootout victory. But the Sabres did win the last meeting, 4-0 at Carolina on the final day of the regular season, preventing the Hurricanes from clinching first place in the East.
Unlike the Senators, who proved to be more flash than grit, the Hurricanes are expected to present the Sabres with a tougher challenge in a matchup featuring two teams with similar opportunistic offensive styles and sound defensive systems.
Buffalo and Carolina are 8-3 this postseason and won 52 games in the regular season. The Sabres, with 43 playoff goals, might have the edge on the Hurricanes, who scored 32, but both teams have allowed only 27.
The goaltenders, Miller (8-3) and Carolina's Cam Ward (8-2), are rookies, and are getting help from the players in front of them. Carolina has been credited with 202 blocked shots and the Sabres have 195. Only Edmonton, with 215, has registered more this postseason.
Oh, and here's another similarity: the Sabres and Hurricanes were both discounted for being too inexperienced and lacking big-name talent to be considered Stanley Cup contenders when the season began in October.
Not any longer."

what an ass kicking we took the other night. It was like hey, where have all the offence gone.....I duh, hum hun?? Boy what a beatting we took. I think its time to bring up some fresh blood from Rochester because if the Sbers can't stop Carolina's onslot we're dead and should we loss here at home tomorrow night you can kiss it (Stanley cup) goodbye.
On my positive note: What a picture this year for Lord Stanley is turning out to be. as of tonight, the Oilers are now one away from a sweep which means, if the Sabres can pull an upset off we will face Rollison and Peca for Loard Stanley's cup...funny how life turns things around isn't it.

The Sabres will be all right. It was one bad game. A game where we were playing with two defensemen who belong in the minors, and Jay McKee left for a bit. Fitzpatrick has held his own, but he's had some bad giveaways. Janik has been thrown to the wolves.
Plus, the Sabres were out-shot, out-hit, out-muscled, and out-played. Yet they still only lost by one goal. So for the first time this postseason they don't have a 2-0 series lead. Now it's a best of five series and the Sabres have home ice advantage. It's hardly time to start panicking.
I really hope Numminen plays tonight. This postseason, they're 9-1 with him in the lineup and 0-3 without.
We might be getting Adam Mair back too. That scrapper won't put up goals, but you can bet he'll be a physical presence to be reckoned with.

I just could not take it after Carolina scored first...I said to myself "Self, its all over." I even had to turn off my TV and walk away from it for 30 minutes then I turn it on again and seen it was 2 to 1 in the Sabres favor. However, the Sab's nearly lost it again in that first few minutes of the game.
I think its is warring on the minds of the other player that we have so many injured Defence men. now Tallendar is out. Who's left in Roscheter ?? From here on out its all NEEDLES AND PINS. We must WIN on Firday or it will be over for sure.

Dino, it was the first game we hadn't scored first...now its a who gets scored on first from here on out. I didn't see Janik but Jillson was place in his spot insted last night. What I don't like about Tallendar is he keeps taking stupid penalties on the offence mometum dumb playing. I think McKee is feeling an injury with his foot fromall those shot its been taking. If McKee goes out oh boy, then what ?
I don't think Toppo will play on Friday its a gron injury and if you ever had a pulled gron it hurts for weeks. I had one it had taken me a month to feel better. Should Toppo come in Friday and plays he will run the risk, big RISK of injuring himeself even more. I think we'll see Jillson once again on Friday.

I'm out of town and the NHL playoffs are not a big deal in a lot of the country.

Last night's sounds like it became a blowout, even though the final score doesn't show that.

What a game! Last night's was a mirror image of Monday's, except this time the Sabres out-shot, muscled, hit, and skate the Hurricanes. They dominated the Hurricanes from start to finish, except for a nail-biting flurry at the end there.
It's fantastic that the Sabres chased Cam Ward. Gerber is not a great goalie but he was on last night. The first breakaway by Grier gave him confidence. If anybody but Grier had that shorthanded breakaway we would have scored. I love Mike Grier but his offensive skills are on Rob Ray's level.
And how about Jeff Jillson? That guy played out of his mind. Way to step it up. I used that guy as a punchline for his entire Sabres career but I'll never do it again. He was all over the place last night. Power play, penalty kill, and how about that thundering hit? HOLY CRAP!

Dino, it was the first game we hadn't scored first...now its a who gets scored on first from here on out.Nah. Ottawa scored first in game four, which was the first game the Sabres didn't score first. Last night was the third game the Sabres didn't score first. Scoring first doesn't REALLY mean anything, it was just cool when we had the streak going. The Sabres came back from being one or two goals down all season.
But it's always fun to get the first goal.
Biker, indeed the games are broadcast over the internet on WGR. I think it's wgr550.com, but I usually just google WGR 550 when I need to find the website. But be careful, Rick Jeanerette and Jim Lorenz are Democrats who support unions and don't like you.

True that.
Man I hope Numminen can play tomorrow. Jillson was a force out there last night and I don't think he's a liability at all. But with Tallinder hurt now, we'll have to dress Janik again or Paetch. Ruff even talked about converting Pominville. That's not too bad; he's played some defense on the point for power plays. I'm still uneasy with it though.

bang across the boards like kids on their skate boards. Boy, last nights game really sunk. We had no forwards to speak of and our defence was totally gone, disappeared with injuries. It really looks like the end of the road for the Sabres because they really did play without any heart last night.
And Sunday's game will be no different... Carolina 7 Sabres 0 for Sunday.
How dare Carolina beat us, shut our team out on our home ice how are the Sabres allowed such a display of dominance to smack us on home ice...The ride is over, its over, its ooover.....

Yah, it doesn't look good now, even though the series is tied up. I think heart only goes so far- Carolina is the better team and Miller has made it competitive. But our defense is wrecked and it really showed last night- Buffalo couldn't break their strong forechecking. The only hope is Tumey gets back for Sunday and the Sabres come back with a strong performance like after the game two loss.

I wouldn't go so far as to call him Judas. But you've been negative from the get-go so be my guest.
It was definitely a better showing last night than it was Friday. A couple missed opportunities and a penalty on Dumont and the puck's in our net.
But the Sabres know they can play with the scotch tape defense. They'll be OK. For a series to go seven games, somebody has to lose game six. I'd rather it be Carolina.
After all, this team has been on the WAR PATH all season long. No reason to doubt them now.

but what Carolina has been doing switching goalies off and on is making the Sabres Forwards a bit off...A forward tends to get use to how a goalie plays through his body movements but when you change a goalie it tends to make the forwards a bit off with their shots.....and this is how Carolina has been beatting the Sabres.....plus there powerplay which the Sabres seem to have lost that after seires 2......No power play, no team power, = no win. Tonight, no powerplay = no win for the Sabres.....

Actually, the Sabres started the season 4-2, then went 4-6 for an 8-8 record. An early four game losing streak, which included two losses to Ottawa and one to Columbus in Rochester, brought them back to .500. That was the last time they were .500. They took off and soared up the standings until the six game losing streak in March. THen they closed outt he season winning six. That makes for one helluva WAR PATH season.
You say it must me tiring to be a supporter of losing team that comes and goes. I say it must be really disheartening to have no faith in your hometown team. They need to win two in a row to advance. They've done that four times already this postseason. In fact, they won five in a row to close out the Flyers and begin the Senators series. What's to say they can't do it again?
Their defense is depleted, but don't suspect for a minute these Rochester guys aren't here to play. They played well enough to win on Sunday, and they should have won. A great save by Ward on Hecht in OT saved the day. You win some, you lose some. It happens.
The Sabres are one of the final three teams in the NHL. They've advanced further than every annual contender. They beat Ottawa, the league-wide favorite to win the Cup, in only five games. Show a little support.

(*** Here I must say, they team isn't playing well at all and they will not pull a merical out of the shorts tonight. Lets face it, Carolina is a better and faster team at this point. As for Hecht well, he needs to take better aim, as for Max well, he is just trying too hard and is making Rookie mistakes like given up the puck at the blue line and where has Drury been, sleeping on the bench face it these guys lost their heart and they know it. It has nothing to do with not supporting my home town team has everything to do with telling my team you're crapping fish parts on my ice, get on the edge of the blades or get off my ice.)

****( Well sorry to pop your bubble but Las Vegas has changed that line. Buffalo is now the far underdog and Vegas has the Ed's and Carolina for the Cup and Vegas has the Ed's taking the cup this year. Face it, you know it like I know it, the Sabres fell apart after Kalian and Conlley went down and has not recovered from their loss. )
