Glen Beck racist comment has led 36 advertisers to pull out of his show
August 24, 2:37 PMSalt Lake City Headlines ExaminerMarci Stone
Conservative Glenn Beck is paying a price for his comment that President Barack Obama is a "racist." Advertisers have continued to pull out of sponsoring his Fox News television show. It's a campaign largely led by ColorOfChange.org, a black political coalition.
Beck also said in a television appearance in late July that Obama has a "deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture."
According to the ColorofChange website, the new companies distancing themselves from Glen Beck's show include Airware Inc. (makers of Brez anti-snoring aids), Ancestry.com, AT&T, Blaine Labs Inc., Campbell Soup Company, Clorox, Ditech, The Elations Company, Experian (creator of FreeCreditReport.com), Farmers Insurance Group, Johnson & Johnson (makers of Tylenol), Lowe's, NutriSystem, Sprint, The UPS Store and Verizon Wireless.
"...Sprint ads appeared as part of a broader rotational package of advertising purchased on the Fox Network," said Kathleen Dunleavy, a Sprint spokesperson, in an email to ColorOfChange.org. "They were not specifically targeted to the Glenn Beck Show nor should they air during this program going forward."
"...I wanted to let you know that we have taken steps to make sure that [Sprint] will not be advertising on the Glenn Beck show," Dunleavy later reiterated in a phone message to ColorOfChange.org.
"While we will continue to advertise on news programming, including FOX News, there are certain programs on the FOX Network that do not meet Lowe's advertising guidelines, including The O'Reilly Factor and Glenn Beck Program," said Meliski Cox, a spokesperson for Lowe's, in an email to ColorOfChange.org.
"We have addressed the issue," said Rich Hallibran, a spokesperson for The UPS Store, in a phone message to ColorOfChange.org. "You will not see our ads on The Glenn Beck TV program."
"We are no longer advertising on Beck's program," said Susan McGowan, Senior Director of Public Relations at NutriSystem, Inc., in an email to ColorOfChange.org. "You can now include us with the other companies that have stopped advertising."
Now watch this and tell me,
WHY would ANY true red-blooded patriot find Mr. Beck's program to be in "bad taste?"

Take note; look at the list of companies, their mostly worth tens of BILLIONS.
One way to spin this, is that these multi billion dollar companies know Obama is a racist, yet need to continue the 'illusion' that he is not. by dropping the advertisi9ng for this person, they are continuing that illusion.
Also, why would a multiBILLION dollar corporation CARE what a talk show host thinks about the president?

Companies have the right to want to align themselves with whom the want. If a celebrity says outrageous things, time and time again, then companies also have the right to say "we don't want to associate our brand with that person anymore."
It has very little (if anything) to do with politics, and everything to do with money.
As far as the topic you say you brought up 4-5 months ago, were you talking about Jim O's boycott of companies that he feels are "feeding the political machine?"
I thought that boycott was a lousy idea, because the idea was to boycott companies, based on whom they align themselves with politically. I also thought that Buffalo Pundit's idea to boycott Baurle advertisers was wrong.
Once you start telling companies "I won't patronize you because you're too liberal/too conservative/too Christian/not Christian enough, then you're trying to **** up the whole system.

If talk show diaglogue which can easily be construed as irrational and/or insulting to a large group of people or a minority pressures advertisers to withdraw or move their ad dollars from a talk show, TV show, any forum which may make them look bad to a large number of customers,
that's just business.
If I was a corporate entity who sponsored Glenn Beck's show and I came under pressure from a group(s) representing a large segment of consumers, I'd publicly withdraw my ad dollars from his show in a second as not to LOSE BUSINESS and if that decision ever applies to local talk radio or TV shows due to real or perceived controversy, that's the nature of the business: No guarantees and certain lines which should never be crossed.
Say what you will about Obama, but for Beck to call him a racist on Fox in front of hundreds of thousands of viewers in addition to the millions of Americans who've read his accusations RE: Obama, its a direct insult to a large segment of black viewers not to mention the white & others offended by Beck's loud mouth.
And I state the above with confidence simply because thirty-six companies listened to ColorofChange because their audience translates into millions in revenues.
Its ultimately the advertiser's choice but a "bad investment," whether on paper or a person hurts the bottom line and has zip to do with free speech; All business.

Companies have the right to want to align themselves with whom the want.
Do individuals have the same right?
It has very little (if anything) to do with politics, and everything to do with money.
I think it have EVERYTHING to do with politics...
Politics IS money!
I thought that boycott was a lousy idea, because the idea was to boycott companies, based on whom they align themselves with politically. I also thought that Buffalo Pundit's idea to boycott Baurle advertisers was wrong.
I think it's an AWESOME idea!
If companies want to be involved in politics and financially support the destroying of our economy they are exposing themselves the repercussions that come with it. If we want to chip in and buy a billboard that says "Therising Jewelers gives Suckowski $10,000 a year" we should have that right! If we want to stand on public property and hand out information flyers indicating "Therising Jewelers has given $250,000 to XYZ candidates over the last 10 years" we should have that right...
But it must be factual. I don't think ANYONE should be able to lie; except politicians of course!
Once you start telling companies "I won't patronize you because you're too liberal/too conservative/too Christian/not Christian enough, then you're trying to **** up the whole system.
The system is all ready **** up! Maybe by calling out those that are the root of the problem (the financial supporters) it may change the climate of politics a little bit!

I wasnt offended,
I've made more than my share of racialist jokes and other bad taste statements
BUT aside from the fact Beck, like Lindbaugh, Hannity, O' Reilly and the rest of these hate mongers-
Don't you find it the least bit insulting hearing some imbecile tell you that you're President is a racist? (Regardless what you feel about Obama).
One of the main reasons right-wing scat-mongers like Beck REALLY TICK ME OFF is that they have gotten away with nearly every conceivable insult directed at Obama
while under
Bush II?
It was a RARE occasion when both talk show hosts AND journalists came down hard on "W" and when they did, it was USUALLY done GENTLY.
And no, Olbermann does not count. He's right here and there but his big mouth has made NO difference and he KNOWS it.
Dan Rather questions Bush's Texas Air National Guard service and loses his job.
Glenn Beck calls Obama a "nazi," "racist" "socialist" and other crap and like the rest of the media has been doing-GETS AWAY WITH IT-
Linbaugh wants Obama therefore America to "fail" and keeps HIS job?
This is YOUR media at work, Cgoody.
Don't worry about "your man(?)," Glenn because for the near future,
he(?) will keep his job, his !@# show while the money advertisers took away from HIS show is going to OTHER "quality" Fox shows.

So he hates half of himself then? You do realize that he's as much white as he is black. He was raised by his white grandparents, so we're assuming he hates them as well?
Look I can understand if you want to claim that he favors the black population and is working to help them out more than the whites, but to claim he's racist and hates white people, that is just ridiculous. Of course, what should I expect from someone that loves to compare a democratically elected man (by the majority of voting americans) to a fascist dictator that killed millions.

Oh and BTW, he is your president whether you like it or not. It's your right to protest against him if you like, but at the end of the day he is still the President of the United States of America and you are a citizen of this country (I'm assuming).
I won't even call you unpatriotic if you don't support him, unlike what the conservatives did in this country when Bush was in power and we were (and still are BTW) at war. I do recall them coming out and saying "we must support the president because we're at war and those that don't are unpatriotic." I guess things change when someone from the other political party is elected.

Patriotic in my opinion doesn't mean to blindly follow what an elected officials tells you. I look at it more as following the original bill of rights and stuff. NOT a perverted bill of rights where people just add more and more "non-rights" type stuff.
