BuffaloDonte Whitner, S, OHIO STATE With Lawyer Milloy in Atlanta and Troy Vincent clearly on the downside of his career, Buffalo has qeustions at safety. However, it has far grater needs at offensive tackle and defensive tackle. Taking Whitner is a one of the biggest reaches we have seen.

Buffalo (from Chicago), John McCargo, DT, NORTH CAROLINA ST Some picks are more difficult to explain than others. It's true that defensive tackle is one of the Bills' needs, but taking McCargo here is one of the biggest reaches we've seen in years.

Espn also said Ryan Leaf was the best qb in the draft.

while Im not estatic over the picks I take comfort in them all being defensive players with no crazy runningback quarterback or wide reciever picks.

we will find out in two years how we did:D

Levi adds stability to this organization.
He shows wisdom in not drafting another qb or rb.
Steven is correct.

You are absolutely correct regarding ESPN and their judgement of Ryan Leaf.
I posted ESPN to get a conversation started.

While the Bills have many needs I really question placing a number one on a player who is not only coming out as a junior but is also coming off a serious injury and surgery. He probably would have been there in the 3rd round.

I partially agree with your assessment of Levy. But it was once John Butler and Bill Polian left that the Bills and their drafting ability took a fall.

And there picks confused me totally..on the Yes channel with Maddog who says and calling Marv an old man "no wonder the Bills picked these deadbeats, the Bills orgnization has an 80 year old man making the picks."

Let them all question our draft. If these experts were such experts they'd be NFL general managers. They're all quick to point out that McCargo should have gone later, but nobody seems to remind the viewers that the 'experts' labelled Youboty as a first rounder.

So, whatever.

That's why they are ESPN and not ESP.

I agree. All the pre and post draft talk is fun and makes interesting discussion, but not good for much more than that.

In 2000, the "experts" graded Buffalo's draft a B and Denver's a C or C-. That was the 2000 draft -the infamous Erik Flowers draft which, six years later not only didn't yield any starters, it didn't even give us someone to send over to NFL Europe. Denver, on the other hand, selected Mike Anderson among other starters.

In 2002, some "experts" said that the Bills shouldn't take Roy Williams (S) with the #4 spot- it was too high to draft a safety. Instead, they took Mike Willliams. Think they wish they could have that pick over?

I'm at least happy that they used the picks to address problem areas.

The draft has too much time devoted to it, so they have to kill time like you see with the 24-hour news. When you pick someone that wasn't projected to go until a little later, they'll lampoon you... then they look at your old picks that you probably picked when they were projected to go and see who you "could have" picked later in that draft. If you like someone who's projected to go in the 5th round, don't take him in the 1st, but sometimes you gotta trust your football instincts and bump a guy up.
