"Scream at me" means "Holla at me" or as you may be more familiar with, "Holler at me" which means "Talk to me." in formal English.
Can I be a corndog, too? :o :D

I miss the old and more "innocent" days of hip hop. Whatever happened to De La Soul, Boggie Down Productions, Naughty By Nature, Salt N Pepa... Heck, even Skee-Lo... The boys with the CARS THAT GO BOOM!
What about the old B Boy Records?
I know, I am a dork... A suburban, White, over 30 dork.
Excuse me while I transport myself back in time, put on a pair of Cross Colors overalls, gel my hair and get ready to watch In Living Color.
By the way, my boyfriend has a flat top with tracks shaved into the side.
Oh, and he's the manager at Chess King, y'all...
"Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty
You're listening to the boy from the big bad city
This is jam hot
This is jam hot"
They are gonna have fun with this...

those days REALLY haven't disappeared at the local shows... And Deep Thinka is all about those golden days... we are trying to show those that are older and still interested that there are shows out there that you can go and enjoy that are hip hop.
The problem is that the music industry pushes garbage on people that ONLY watch TV or listen to terrestrial radio. Shoot this person, sell this drug, drive this car... Thats not Hip Hop, it is so much bigger than that and there are MANY sub cats... I mean I'm over 30, grew up in the woods, live in a sub urb, I'm caucasian -yada yada yada- but who cares... Many of my all time fav performers are 10 plus years older than me and still rocking the stage.
Anyway - I'm glad I've sparked some interest

Yeah nothing wrong with that old school... but you're dating yourself... I guess I'm not used to running into old people hanging out online. I mean I'm old but I'm also at work

I like where you're going with this, but do you really think Naughty by Nature were "innocent"?
I know you're down with O.P.P., but you have listened to the lyrics, right?
Or, how about this from Hip Hop Hooray:
You try to act like something really big is missing
Even though my name's graffiti written on your kitten
My favorite, Naughty by Nature lyric, though (they were good) is also from Hip Hop Hooray:
I did your partner cause she's hot as a baker cause I'm Naughty by Nature Not cause I hate cha!
Fun, without a doubt, but not innocent. Not overly violent, maybe, but not innocent.
As for Salt n' Peppa, I'll just say "Push it good, push it REAL good".
BTW Salt 'n Peppa trivia - Did you know that Salt 'n Peppa, and Kid 'n Play, all worked together at the same Sear's in Queens, answering phones? Years later, I researched it further when the building became a strip club.

Im not THAT ;)old and niether is hip hop. Most peoples musical taste are developed in there teen yrs. Rappers delight cam,e out in 79 - 80 but rap as a whole didnt become widely popular untill the mid 80's. meaning most people in there 40's and up didnt come of age listening to it.
Not trying to break your balls or anything, but I see hip hop (rap) as on the decline now. A lot of the local stations that used to play 50 - 50 hip hop and pop with a little rock thrown in (like 98.5, and 101.1) are playing more pop and rock and less rap it seems to me. I travele a bit and Im hearing that on stations everywhere so its not just a local thing either. Also now that rap artist will actually have to pay for the music they take from other performers this will almost assuradly kill of the street rappers which have always been the backbone of the industry.
Hip Hop as a term seems odd to me. Rap at least you can point to and say "thats a rap song". I have heard songs called "Hip Hop" that are in fact R&B or even soul.
Just my opinion.

At least Naughty By Nature had the panache to use euphemisms and not come right out and say the four letter words (that I cannot type here or I'll be deleted.) At least they said "kitten" rather than the other words for what they implied. And "I won't get into that I'll do it ... uh... sort of properly... I'll say the last P stands for property." Or "it's another word that rhymes with clean as a meanus..."
By the way, I bet the Ontario Police Patrol loved that song when it came out :)
I miss the old underground rap music they used to play on WBNY in the early 90s... I miss when WBLK was "Power 94."
Now the rap and hip hop music is too graphic... I hope Rukkus is correct to say that some of it out there is still a little cleaner...

Ummm.......Rukkus. You posted that comment before I ever posted on this thread. You don't make any sense. I just think you changed your story after I stated the fact that there isn't any local talent on the rap scene.
...just the terminally local.:)

Yeah! There was 80's old school and then the late 80's and early 90's old school... I prefer the late 80's and early 90's stuff...
Chess King! Power 94! British Knights sneakers! Fresh Prince! The Cabbage Patch! The Running Man! Giant earrings!

SIRRIUS IS THE ISH! HIP HOP NATION 40, BACKSPIN 43, and SHADE 45! Not to mention they have a great blues station, raggae, and whatever else you want. I never listen to terrestrial radio anymore, except Shred and Reagan.

Well stated- and yes I see R&B and Hip Hop lines blurred a lot. But to be clear Hip Hop is a culture in which rap is a part of. Instead of singing, you rap in a Hip Hop song- ya dig? Hip Hop is made up of 4 parts: the DJ, the Emcee, the Breaker, and Graff art. Too often people use Hip Hop and Rap to mean the same thing when its not.
The best way to find out whether hip hop is up or down is to check the charts. Whats the best selling genre right now? I searched but really couldn't find a solid answer... soundscan... billboard... etc. I did find the top selling albums overall of 2005 and 4 of them are hip hop albums:
1. Mariah Carey, The Emancipation of Mimi (4,968,606)
2. 50 Cent, The Massacre (4,852,744)
3. Kelly Clarkson, Breakaway (3,496,192)
4. Green Day, American Idiot (3,360,394)
5. The Black Eyed Peas, Monkey Business (3,037,251)
6. Coldplay, X&Y (2,615,280)
7. Rascal Flatts, Feels Like Today (2,511,209)
8. Gwen Stefani, Love, Angel, Music, Baby (2,505,390)
9. Kanye West, Late Registration (2,413,580)
10. The Game, The Documentary (2,275,646)
I personally don't see a decline, however I do see a decline in the quality of hip hop that most people are hearing now. Its garbage compared to the late 90's. But whatever, I don't believe true hip hop heads ever want our music to be accepted by the general public anyway. When that happens - it will already be dead. To each his own!
