How do I undo a shortcut that I accidentally created?

This document is now visible from my desktop, and I don't want it there.

I'm using Vista, if it makes a difference.

Thanks,

You should be able to right click on it and then click delete in the little fly out menu.

Yes, but then it says "Are you sure you want to move this file to the Recycle Bin?"
I don't want to actually delete it, I just want to remove the shortcut.

You are just deleting the shortcut from the desktop. The actual program/document is unaffected.
Edited to add: The shortcut is viewed as a "file".

Well, that was easy.

OK, can we delete this thread, it has accomplished its mission. :)

Thanks, Res and Eff

I'm using Vista, if it makes a difference.

Thanks,Assuming you want to keep the document, follow the instructions below.

Right click on the desktop shortcut and then click delete in the fly out menu.

It will then ask, "Are you sure you want to move this file to the Recycle Bin?" Click YES.

By moving it to the Recycle Bin, all you're doing is removing the shortcut from the desktop. The program/document will be unaffected.

I hope this helps. :)

Cab Calloway was a patient of mine back in the 90's when I worked per diem at White Plains Hospital

A great bandleader and a great band. If musicians of his ilk were playing around here, I'd be out late every night. Honorable mention goes to Spike Jones.

Heres one for you...

Your using windows... so while you can 'delete' the file and it disapears from veiw, its not actually deleted.

I do because my fingers are sometimes nimbler than my brain :(
I do erase (yes, erase, not empty) my recycle bin quite often though. Do I get any points for that????

You get bonus points if you can put it back without asking anyone how!

hahaha, no point for me then!
my eraser uses Gutmann (35 passes) and overwrites cluster tip area and alternate data streams.

I've actually wondered just how efficient wiping the drive is.
Just what exactly is getting wiped and what's left behind.
