View Full Version : The Temporary sales tax

Why do we still hear talk about if buffalo will get a share of the sales tax when the main issue was, why is it still 8% in the first place.
We allowed the politicians to place a temporary burden on local WNY business with an extra 1% temporary sales tax. Apparently that burden was covered and at that time it should of stoped.
So what gives? What re-course do we acutally have?
Can a group acutally go to a federal court and say we were lied to as a community lower it 1%. It's really not my issue to cover what ever they promised themselves as salaries and perks. Plus if you noticed the "management" takes some pretty nice paychecks and benis.
They are talking pay raises while they lay off laborors. We could take thier raises and offset some of the people we are laying off. I really dont' think it's fair that we lay off the low end of people while the high end continue thier ways. Shouldn't cuts and deductions go all the way up to the top? Noticed there wasn't any mention of pay raises before the election.
Thoughts?

They used to cut off the hands of thieves. Now we put them in office. ;)
Well I here talk of some sort of commision to look into the raises. Who is on this commision? Is it actual citizens? If so what kind of people will make up,and how many will sit on it ? Will it be friendlies:rolleyes: ? Or will it be people like you and I ?

IF we let them take thier raises it just raises the over burden we currently have.
You know what was an excellent line i read in the comics which seems to fit more politicians?

Didn't they have to "borrow" 35 million to balance the county budget. How can they condone a pay raise for themselves after that. Never mind the to laying off workers. He "balanced" the budget before the election, but didn't mention the upgrades until after the election. Do you finally agree that the guy is a liar and a snake in the grass? Or is his salary" what the free market will bear, no more no less?"

I tought it was the legislators that are asking for the raise and Giambra is calling up a some sort of council to take action on it.

a good portion of them are... :) Free market? thats what they call the enviroment I'm in..
I remember at one town board meeting or traffic meeting someone from the state said:
"the extra competition is good for the area" seeing there in my opinion a touch too much traffic on union road and down all the residential side streets.
So why doesn't that competition extend to goverment politicians and thier departments?

They way I got it is Giambra is calling on a commitee from the legislature to look into implementing the raise. I hear thru the grapevine that some legislature people are not in favor of this raise they would be the ones to watch in the future, the one's with a little common sense.
In a way they do compete for thier jobs based on thier effectivness. We call it elections. Once you are the incumbent you usually have the advantage if you want to keep the job. irregardless of job performance. This results from the powerbase you have by dipensing favors and sharing the graft.

Can someone dig up what the number are for the raises and who would be getting the raise if we allow it to happen. Will they have an open meeting were they will debate why we should give them a raise?
So is Giambra pushing for a raise or not? Giambra if your reading this can you enlighten us?

One must remember it is a Republican controlled legislature, so what King Joel wants he will most likely get. Hopefully after in Jan this will change with the Dems having more of a say as to what is going to happen.

I am a life long democrat I am also a commitee man. I am old school FDR, JFK kind, even though I was only ten when JFK was shot. These days I would say I am only a democrat because the republicans are so much worse. This democratic party is not the one I joined 32 years ago or at least the one I thought I joined.
I don't know if you can trust them any more than you can the republicans. As you get older the lines blur, and it's not because your eyesight is going.
These day's I vote for the one's who I think will steal the least, and do the least damage. Integrity is a thing of the past.

There are no numbers -- yet. Giambra wants a CITIZEN review board to come up with them (you know wht'a "fair" and "equitable"). Then it goes to the Legislature for a vote. The legistlature meetings are open to citizens, but I don't know if they announce what issues will be covered when they meet.
Giambra himself was "unavailable for comment", but he had his mouthpiece Bruce Fisher chirp about how poor Joel is the least paid amoung all the County Execs in New York State (in counties of equal size).

It shouldn't go to the County Legislature until after the New Year, maybe not for a good six months.

I know what is fair. Pay cuts across the board from G. Pataki downwards. You lead by example.
