I recently received a bill from the Buffalo News. Along with my payment they asked for a tip for the Paperboy. Do you tip the paperboy? I'm just wondering.

Whether you do or don't won't matter much longer. When The News switches to a morning only paper, you won't have kids delivering papers anymore. They'd have to up and out the door before dawn, I think.

I used to have the buffalo sunday paper delivered, and the tonawanda news daily, but cancelled both, mostly because I felt the need to tip. I'm a good tipper and would feel rotten if I didn't give the kid at least $5 per week. The problem wasn't the money, but the collection. It seemed like the paperboy was knocking on my door every week to get some cash. It just wasn't worth the hassle, so I buy the paper from the store if I really need it.

I had the same problem moonshine, so I paid for my papers every 4 weeks. I gave him his 4 weeks worth of tips in one payment. That kept him from knocking on my door every other day.
Yes FJB .. of course you tip the kid. He's out there in all kinds of weather lugging 100 papers around on his shoulder. You don't think the Snooze is paying the kid much, do ya?
These kids depend on their tips. Don't be a tightwad.

I dont know why they don't unionize the little guys. They could start to save for college.
Think about it. They pay men to pick up garbage enough to live on but not a paper boy. The paper delivery person has to remember which houses get the paper and actually collect the fee. Thats like two more thing they do than the guys that pick up the garbage. Not that there's anything wrong with people who pick up garbage.. that's not my point. :)

You have to tip a paperboy. Of course you tip the paperboy. Or papergirl.
They make next to nothing without tips. If you tip the pizza dude, you better tip the paperboy. :) The paperboy should be tipped first, before the bartender or hairstylist.
..and people wonder why their paper ends up in their bushes. TIP is an acronym for To Insure Promptness.

LOL. We'll come back to this issue in a few months -- after The News switches to mornings and it will probably be big guys delivering your paper. I bet they'd LOVE to unionize!:)

I've never heard of a case where a paperboy got tipped like a cow.
I would suspect the paperboy would have to show up to collect very very drunk.
Which brings us to our next question, GB. You had to bring it up, didn't you:
If your (let's say 11 yr. old) paperboy showed up to collect at your door completely inebriated, would you report him to the news? To his parents? or not at all?

My point is that the news sent a bill in the mail. On the bill is a line for tipping. I only recieve the sunday paper as well and it is delivered by an adult in a car. Not some kid walking up and down the street. I usually tip. This time I payed for the whole year. Should I tip or not tip?

. Should I tip or not tip?
Only you can answer that, FJB. What do YOU think you should do? Better yet, What do you FEEL you should do? Do that!
Problem Solved.

Now that we have paper men & women delivering the paper, do you still tip?
By the way, they're private contractors, using their own vehicles. I can't believe WNYresident was pro-union three-years-ago. :D

I think you should tip regardless of who is delivering your paper. I pay online and I include a tip ......... it shouldnt matter who is doing the grungy job of delivering your paper imho
HAPPY EASTER!!!
