WCP This is about 7-years old.
NEC of Transit and William. It's been in different stages of litigation for, at least, the past six years.
Some of the esteemed writers of SUWNY are the very people behind the litigation.
When you get a chance, ask them who's been backing them, finanically, this whole time?
And then they'll tell you "Wal-mart is anti-union"
And then they'll tell you "There are environmental concerns"
And then they'll tell you "There are traffic concerns"
And then they'll tell you "Transit Rd shouldnt be re-zoned"
And then they'll tell you "There will be too much traffic"
Read between the lines. What they're really saying is "We don't want a Wal-Mart built behind our homes, and we'll use every deceptive trick in the book to try to gain community sympathy"
They care about themselves; no one else.
Truthfully, I don't blame them. I wouldn't want a big box store in my backyard, either. But, then again, maybe that's why I didn't buy a house a stone's throw from Transit Road.

I had a feeling you may be talking about something new; I just used the opportunity to vent!
My guess would be the site just s/o Kohl's. Its about 18 or 19 acres. Owned by an Italian Social Club.
Second guess would be Gardenville Plaza (Cheektowaga, actually), recently purchased by Benderson.

I'm not sure- all I was told it was a new site in Lancaster. It could be announced early next week.

Wal-Mart is big and succesful.
To get that way, they must be evil.
To oppose them at every turn is, therefore, good.

She's right on the last point.
Last I heard, food prices drop by 30% in any community where Wal Mart opens one of their big food stores.
Maybe the local food stores oughta gin up some more "spontaneous" protests against WalMart muscling into their turf.
They are big, succesful and evil after all.

There's a 24 hour Super Walmart on Transit near the Easter Hills Mall.
Did food prices in Amherst and Clarence drop 30% yet?

No. This is something to which I can personally atest.

My grocery bill has dropped almost $30.00 per week.
What would cost me $130 to $140 at Wegman's or Tops costs $110.00 at Walmart for the same name brand products.
Now if they could just get the Super Walmart built in Lancaster it would be even better!

Ok- so I screwed up!
I had heard they were buying property, what I didn't hear is they were buying the site they were targeting all-along from Bella-Vista. But it looks like they plan on moving forward, and quickly.

I was hoping for a lowes instead of a home depot. Although, maybe with the new competition, home depot will be worth going to now. Possibly the store will be clean and have employees with an IQ a point or 2 above 70.

Funny you say that about Home Depot. I bet it was not a coincedence that they remodeled the store on Transit near main just as the new Lowes's went up. It is a lot cleaner now. They also seem to have hired a lot of people because you can actually find help in there now.

Still doesn't change the fact that they sell crap and have dragged down the quality of stuff as a whole. And though I prefer Lowe's, quality-wise, it's not much better.
Seeing the quality and selection of laminate flooring, for example, I am dumbfounded that people would buy it at HD rather than online.

Unless you live in boonies, you've probably got one within in minutes of your home already!

There are 9 WalMarts at least in Erie County, not including the one soon to open in Lancaster. Don't know how many are super-centers........
1. Amherst
2. Cheektowaga
3. Clarence
4. Lockport
5. Niagara Falls
6. Hamburg
7. Batavia
8. Springville
9. Warsaw
As far as Target goes, you're right about that, I think. There aren't many out here.....

The Wal-Mart stores in Clarence & Springville are currently Supercenters. Wal-Mart has already publicly announced their desire to build new supercenters in Niagara Falls (next to the outlet mall), Lockport, Orchard Park/Hamburg, and Amherst.
Super Target department/grocery stores are nonexistent in the northeast, the closest ones to Buffalo are in Northern Virginia & Indiana.

My biggest gripe with walmart is the amount of trash it generates. Not the store itself, but the people going there and just tossing garbage around. I used to live a couple miles from the Walmart in hamburg. The fields next to the store had so much garbage in them that you could literally fill up a dumpster with what was there. The stores are typically a mess. A certain portion of the clientèle doesn't care about keeping the store neat, just tossing items around. I've seen a woman light up a cigarette in the middle of the store.
The combination of all of these keeps me from supporting a walmart anywhere near me.
