Seen by many as the very essence of everything bad about corporate America in the late 1990s, Enron is now back in the spotlight. The subject of five separate books, the now bankrupt Enron manipulated the California electricity market, built an electrical generating plant in India that was never allowed to operate, falsified earnings and more. It's audiiting firm has also gone out of business.
Jury selection for the trial of former Chairman Ken Lay and former President Jeff Skilling begins today.
Open for discussion is whether they will follow the succesful "dumber than dog dirt" defense of vindicated HealthSouth Chaiman Ken Scrushy. Scrushy was able to convince the jury that, although he was the longtime Chairman of Healthsouth, he had been duped by five----five!--- different chief finanical officers as to what was going on.
Leading up to his trial, Scrushy hosted a televised weekly Bible study hour, made donations to Black churches and paid for favorable articles in Black community newspapers. He succesfully fought to have the venue for his trial transferred from New York City to Birmingham, Alabama.

The "paying for articles" part only came out a week ago. Apparently, after he won, Scrushy felt he didn't have to pay any more. So he didn't.
The author complained, so that she would get paid for what she delivered.

Today's AP headline:
Witness Testifies Former Enron Executives Lay, Skilling Were Heavily Involved in Running Co.
Looks like the "dumb and dumber" defense is not going to fly with Lay and Skilling

Justice must be pretty quick in Texas. Jury selection sometimes takes weeks. The judge in the Enron trial said he wanted a jury seated by the end of the first day and, by God, they were.
So justice is quick in Texas, unless you’re the Majority Leader in the House of Representatives.

For whom justice can't come quickly enough.

That's what he's been saying for months.
Let's get this nonsense over and he can resume his position as the most effective Majority Leader in fifty years.

Hear an interesting comment this morning.
"Enron is just the tip of the iceberg."
That's what many were saying four years ago.
But now, four years later, where's the rest of the iceberg?
The names we were talking about then----Adelphia, Tyco---are still the names we are talking about now.
The reality is that the overwhelming majority of US businesses are well-run.
There were some rotten apples and they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. But there is no cancer of lawlessness permeating American business.

biker you must be full of yourself. Believing any good exists in corporate America. It never existed. They only wish to exploit all their employees and stockholders. Greedy corrupt bastards.
Of course we also need to apply the same theory to criminals. They mostly come from poor, under educated backgrounds.
Ergo - all poor, under educated people are criminals
