OK, here's my situation, I have internet service through Time Warner that I 'rent' their modem. This is included in my monthly bill. Just yesterday I receive a letter from them stating I can 'swap' my old modem for their 'new' modem which will 'enable me to experience the full speed of Road Runner, including PowerBoost'.
I can either complete an online form and have the new modem mailed to me or I can pick up my new modem at my local payment center after printing a coupon out from the modem swap website.
How long has this PoweBoost crap been around? I'm thinking more than a year. Why did they wait so long to tell me to replace my old modem that I'm still currently using?
Would it be possible and cheaper to just go out and buy a modem that could handle Roadrunner the same as their touted 'new modem' instead of paying a monthly rental fee for using their's?
Thanks,

To buy a modem would run you 50 to 100, depending on weither you want wired or wirelss. So you pay what $3 a month? that would be 17 to 33 months of payments to break even and if your modem break you have to buy a new one.

Just trying to put this in perspective. Have rented their's since 2001. That one is still running. In the long run, owning my own should be cheaper, I guess?
It just p's me off a little that it took them over a year(or however long their PowerBoost thing has been out) to let me know(I had no clue a new modem would be better for their PoweBoost(or is it?)) it might be time to upgrade my modem.

PowerBoost has been out for YEARS! it's the same reason they don't give you an HDMI cable when you get HD cable service! They dont' want to spend the extra money, their not the GOVT they have to use what they have, they don't have a flexable budget!
