View Full Version : Bring Back the Clinton Gore Ticket

You've got to admit that the two Dems most in the public spotlight have been Hillary Clinton and Al Gore of late. And there's no such thing as bad publicity, right.
This was a winning combo for the Dems in the past, so why not go with a winner in the future!

Think of the advantages of a Clinton/Gore ticket.
No messy primary. Save your powder for the general election. Howard Dean seems to be on board with their utterances, so the party machinery wouldn't seem to have a problem with this.
Think of the cost savings. There's probably tons of left-over bumper stickers, posters and lawn signs left over.
This really seems to be a good move.

There's a deeper, campaign reason that the Clinton/Gore ticket may be really attractive to the Democratic Party.
As is well known, the Democratic leadership thinks the average Democratic voter is an idiot. It's not true, but you see it at work all the time. Some of the people here get worked up about Democratic flip-flops scream about hypocrisy. It's not hypocrisy, it's because they think the average Dem voter is a moron with a limited memory.
Why, if it hadn't been for the press having a hissy fit about "first I voted for the $87B before I voted against it", John Kerry would have done just fine.
So here's the inside skinny: the Dem Party leadership would count on their base thinking Bill Clinton is running again. Get 'em all charged up all over again.
Now, I"ve already test-marketed this approach. I asked my wife what she thought of a Clinton/Gore ticket in '08. She's a Dem and a pretty sharp cookie. She thought for a moment and said "So Bill can run again if only he's been out of office for a term."
There you have it!
A real sleeper strategy that may bear a lot of fruit.

Just look how Hillary is grouped in with the rest of the Democratic pantheon:
A driver is stuck in a traffic jam on the highway. Nothing is moving.
Suddenly a man knocks on the window.
The driver rolls down his window and asks, "What happened?"
"Terrorists have kidnapped Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton. They are asking for a $10 million ransom.
Otherwise they are going to douse them with gasoline and set them on fire. We are going from car to car, taking up a collection."
The driver asks, "How much is everyone giving, on average?"
"About a gallon"
Hillary is clearly the right choice for the Democratic Party to make.

OK, this is time for true confessions.
I really wouldn't want a Clinton/Gore ticket. It's possible that the crackpot reasons I came up with might actually be true. It might actually be a help to the Dems.
The real reason I might like a Clinton/Gore ticket is that it might be the only thing that could energize the Republicans.
I don't see any candidates on the Repub side who can generate any ideas or excitement. Bill Frist? Puhleeze.
Mr. Newt certainly has ideas. And he has enough charisma to energize some of the base. As a matter of fact, a Clinton versus Gingrich race might generate the highest percentage and raw count voter turnout in the country's history. But Newt has issues in his personal life which would alienate a large segment of the Republican base. Democrats have shown again and again that they can overlook the personal peccadilloes of candidates who win. But I don't think the Repubs can.
But a Clinton/Gore ticket might flush out some candidates with verve, other than the bland country-club types who seem to be at the top of everyone's list.

How about a Clinton/Clinton ticket? Can a former President that has run for 2 full terms , run as a Vice President?

It appears to be true and that it is possible. Here is the link to the article:

Now THAT would be interesting! However, at the rate things are going in the Bush White House, the next presidential election could be suspended by Bush and the rest of the GOP due to the war on terrorism.
After all, these are dangerous times and, as Bush often said, we shouldn't change horses in midstream (or something like that).

Come on TTF, is that all you've got?
Here I am touting one of your guys and all you can come up with is a weak-kneed slap at Bush?

I did read your citation Farm. Man, you sure had to reach back far to find it; nice work. I also see that they concur with me (prescient devils) that Cheney is experienced but bland. Fortunately for the country, Cheney has proved to be effective while bland. Must be part of his peculiar charm.
Anyway, that Gore/Clinton thing never would have happened. I coulda told you back then. Al never would've gone for it (and he didn't). He might as well have walked around with a bulls-eye t-shirt.
Now on Clinton/Clinton ticket, the would-be assassins would hesitate: what's the lesser of two evils in that one. Now with the new Clinton/Gore ticket I'm suggesting, the target of choice would be clear.

Boy, I hope it's a weak-kneed slap at Bush. God forbid, it should turn out to be true.
Actually, I'm not a Hillary fan. I think she's just as qualified as the white males you GOPs will run for president, but I also think -- because the world is still full of people like...well... you -- she could never win. Hillary is a dream come true for you Bu****es.

BTW Ms High-and-mighty, I claim the "morally superior" crown for a day: I've posted some Bush jokes as well as the terrific anti-Hill one above.
You're such a wet blanket, you don't even give it a yuck.
Nuts to you!

Referring to those of us who are intelligent and discerning voters who remember further back than last week and love cookies?
Guilty as charged.
But the world, sadly, is not "full of" people like us.
Fortunately for the Republic, though, there have been enough.

I'm pragmatic. I don't support Hillary for president because I don't think she can win (yes, because of the likes of you). You would LOVE to see Hillary run for the same reason.
How it is that anyone can see her as a worse president that Bush, I don't know. Maybe if she was a better cookie baker.

Saw Montel on Fox today. Neil Cavuto's show. Montel didn't like Hillary's "plantation" remarks.
I think my fondest hopes are crumbling before my very eyes.
