Is there ANY "definitive" source?
This purported tape sure does greatly help take the heat off bush & all the bad press, scandals, indictments, resignations, crooked lobbying, throughout his administration. Is it even remotely possible that the purported tape is faked? Is it remotely possible for the gov to make and distribute a fake tape? Is it remotely possible that the media is controlled by the government?

BLOOMBERG
Al-Qaeda's war against America won't be limited to Iraq and Afghanistan, and the group plans new operations in the U.S., according to the person purporting to be the al-Qaeda leader.
The Doha, Qatar-based broadcaster didn't say how it obtained the tape, whether it had been verified as genuine, or when and where it had been recorded.

Al-Jazeera on Thursday broadcast portions of an audiotape purportedly from Osama bin Laden, saying al-Qaida is making preparations for attacks in the United States but offering a possible truce to rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan.
There was no immediate confirmation of the tape's authenticity, although the voice resembled that of bin Laden's in previous messages.
The last audiotape purported to be from bin Laden was broadcast in December 2004 by Al-Jazeera.
Al-Jazeera's editor-in-chief Ahmed al-Sheik would not comment on when or where the tape was received.
Al-Sheik said the tape seemed to have been made "recently" but would not say what led him to that conclusion.

Purported bin Laden tape: 'It's only a question of time'
An audiotaped message purported to be from al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden warns the American people that plans for terror attacks in the United States are under way.
CNN could not immediately confirm that the voice on the poor-quality audiotape, which was aired on Arabic-language network Al-Jazeera on Thursday, was that of bin Laden.
There is also no way to determine when the message was recorded, but the reference to attacks in European cities could indicate it was recorded after the July 7 bombings on London's transportation system.
If the voice on the tape is determined to be that of bin Laden, it would be the first message from the al Qaeda leader since he released two audiotaped messages in December 2004

I wonder if Bush sheep actually get more terrified every time, while watching the news report this story, when they always show OBL coming down from the mountain in their broadcasts. It's like, oh-no, here he comes down from the mountain and he gonna get ya! Why do they always show this same footage from the 1980s?

This is how I think this terror threat will playout:
Breaking News broadcasts will detail how acting on tips from Homeland Security, the CIA, FBI and local authorities from whatever red state city or cities stopped 15-20 foreign muslims from blowing up chemical and natural gas plants. They'll then show detailed terror plots found in a van or car. After that, Bush will come out in his flightsuit declaring 'Mission Accomplished' as his poll numbers soar to record heights. The key here is 'Red States'. The republican party needs this so America will forget about Mr. Abramoff.

I see so, so much more in this scenario. Local authorities tell us it was the wiretapping of citizens that foiled the alleged new terrorist plot. Also the Patriot Act. Also, Bush intelligence machine discovers that some of the alleged terrorists are from -- you guessed it -- Iran. Moreover, they admit that Iran was the real co-conspirators in 9-11. Iraq was just the fall guy, turns out.
A grateful public gives Bush permanent approval of the Patriot Act, including the right to wiretap anyone, anytime without any system of checks and balances (wait....we already do that) and to toss us in the clinker without due process (ditto).
No time to think about that, though, because we're preparing to go after Iran -- alone mostly, because other countries are tied up in pesky negotiations.
All's well that ends well, though -- except for the boys and girls who get drafted (all Dems, but everyone knows that is just a coincidence). Oh well. Ends justify the means, I always say.

Oh, I forgot. Boys and girls don't want to be drafted, giving rise to much chaos. Now, Bush never actually served in Vietnam, but he does remember all those unsightly riots and such. He doesn't want to see that again when the draft is re-instituted, so he....
hmmmm...
imposes martial law (that should keep everyone under control. After all, everyone, at least in the Bush White House, knows division of public opinion will make us seem weak to Iranians);
has the constitution amended so he can serve at least one more term, maybe more.(it's for our own good, really it is!)
Everyone, at least the Bush White House, knows during times of war you need to stay the course and not change leaders in mid stream.
At the rate the White House is going, Bush will be president forever......

"Your World with Neil Cavuto" yesterday provided two interesting perspectives on how to deal with OBL's offer of a truce.
Vice-President Cheney: "We don't negotiate with terrorists."
Quiet, resolute, direct.
But boring!!!!
The former head of NYC's Office of Terrorism (IIRC): "I'd invite Osama and his lieutenants to a negotiating conference. When they were all seated, I'd send a Hellfire missile right into the middle of it."
Loud, determined, very very very direct.

That's the incredible part of this whole thing--and sad. At least half of the American people can't find Bush credible. It has been proven that he manipulates the news, wiretaps for any information he wants, manipulates that information, and is wholly political in whatever he does.
If that was an authentic video of Osama, it would be encouraging because it would seem he's beginning to lose ground. And of course, I'd never want to negotiate or trust him in any way.
But instead, showing that tape creates high anxiety because it looks like it's Bush who's getting desperate and resorting to extreme measures to save himself and the party. And ignoring the fact that he's gotten the world in deep, deep trouble.
The US is weakened on all sides and can't count on the UN to bail us out. We went against all advice and history.

Bin Laden confirmed as voice on tape
CASABLANCA, Morocco - Experts have concluded that Osama bin Laden's true voice was heard Thursday for the first time in more than a year, quieting speculation that his long silence meant that he was dead.
U.S. intelligence analysts have judged the tape to be authentic, an intelligence official said. Bin Laden speaks in a low voice; the sound quality is generally poor.

Look, I gave you a head's up yesterday. Whatsamatter, does Hillary have to send you the memo personally.
The new party line is: Bush has "wasted" the past two years and he "outsourced" the negotiations with Iran to the Europeans.
Let me dumb it down for you: Europeans and negotiations are BAD.
If you don't get with the program, it's off to the Dem Re-education Camp ("DREC") for you.

Temper, temper, Biker.....Just because you know how to spell whatever it is you want to write doesn't mean you should actually write it.
I don't need you to dumb down anything for me. I have a mind of my own and the mental resources to exercise it. I don't agree with you. That makes me dumb?
Moving on to comments that are not inappropriate.....
I saw an interesting analysis on Fox News, of all places, last night regarding the tape. The talking head (I don't remember his name) thought the tape was actually bin laden's way of reasserting his authority. He said it made little sense otherwise, since obviously the U.S. is not going to negotiate a truce and as yet there is no evidence our intelligence community can find that attacks on the U.S. are coming in the near future.
That made the most sense to me of anything I've read or heard so far.

He's dying....no,...wait...he's dead!...but,.... here's a new tape, showing him looking ....in quite good shape, and as dangerous as ever!
"perport",...."perported", ....."perportedly", ......over,& over, & over, etc.
That's ALL we EVER get,.... since gwb came into power & wants total, unchecked, non-accountable "definitive" power,....NOT some "perported" power over "all".
C'mon people... it's a proven fact. Look what "non-accountability" did to the oil industry...it's BOOMING! RIGHT????

Crying Wolf
Each time a new videotape from Osama bin Laden emerges, as one did yesterday, it ends up embarrassing the Bush Administration because the Administration has adopted a tactic of planting stories in the media that bin Laden is dead, which are then conclusively disproven each time a new tape appears. Every since 9/11, the Administration has repeatedly whipped up speculation that Osama bin Laden is dead in order to induce the public into becoming distracted (and scared) by the Evil Ones, and to give the appearance that Commander-in-Chief George Bush is protecting us all by slaying the Big Bad Wolf.
How many times have we heard the Administration or its close allies plant stories in the media indicating or strongly implying that bin Laden is dead - only for the stories to be proven entirely false? Let us count Michael Ledeen, National Review, January 9, 2006
"And, according to Iranians I trust, Osama bin Laden finally departed this world in mid-December. The al Qaeda leader died of kidney failure and was buried in Iran, where he had spent most of his time since the destruction of al Qaeda in Afghanistan."
Christian Science Monitor, 12/21/2005
US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said Wednesday that he doubts Osama bin Laden is in any position to command the worldwide operations of Al Qaeda. The BBC reports that Mr. Rumsfeld told reporters on a flight to Pakistan that bin Laden could still be hiding along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, but it was hard to know since the terrorist leader had not been heard from in more than a year....

Osama Bin Dead?
Michael Ledeen says his sources in Iran have told him Osama bin Laden died of kidney failure last month.
According to Iranians I trust, Osama bin Laden finally departed this world in mid-December. The al Qaeda leader died of kidney failure and was buried in Iran, where he had spent most of his time since the destruction of al Qaeda in Afghanistan. The Iranians who reported this note that this year’s message in conjunction with the Muslim Haj came from his number two, Ayman al-Zawahiri, for the first time.
