The New American Magazine has released their Conservative Index, rating the performance of the members of the 109th Congress & Senate
Grab your PDF copy at the link below.
Well worth the read, only one congressman in the nation achieved a perfect score of 100%, Congressman Ron Paul(R) of Texas. No suprise there.
Check out the scores of our local congress folk and senators...you won't believe it, or then again maybe you already fiqured as much.
"The Conservative Index” rates congressmen based on their adherence to constitutional principles of limited government, to fiscal responsibility, to national sovereignty, and to a traditional foreign policy of avoiding foreign entanglements. Preserving our constitution, the freedoms it guarantees, and the moral bedrock on which it is based is what the word “conservatism” once meant — and how it is being applied here."

Interesting stuff. I was looking at the voting records for New York's representatives. A total of twelve representatives scored a 30 or above, ten Democrats and two Republicans. The lowest score, 10, was from a Republican, and Republicans got four of the seven lowest scores. Of course, Democrats outnumber Republicans 20 - 9, but ten of the twelve highest scores? Unreal.
Looks like New York's Congressional Democrats are doing a better job of actually working for Conservative values than the Republicans.

Kinda goes to show you there isn't a dimes worth of difference between a Democrat and a Republican these days, doesn't it?

I wouldn't go so far as to say the DEM's are doing a better job at being conservative. You've got to take account that some of them will vote against the REP's just because they are Republicans or more often because they aren't getting the graft and pork that they want.
I would expect that a real conservative would score 75% or better, but scores below 50%, some way below 50%!
Where I went to school that was going to get you an F grade.
So I guess that means most of the Congress and Senate are real dummies when it comes to true conservative values.

I absolutely agree with you in that when the chips are down there's less difference between the two parties than we think. The reason I posted was that the old saying "actions speak louder than words" is important to remember. The folks making the biggest stink about Conservative values aren't necessarily the ones working the hardest toward actually achieving them.
If you (and by you I mean Buffknu... oops I mean people in general) vote the party line because you assume your party stands for this or that value, then you may not be voting for what you think you're voting for.
I realize it's tough to filter out the background noise of partisan bickering and punditry dressed as journalism, and keeping informed on issues and where candidates stand on them is work. But it's worth the effort. Thanks for posting this scorecard.
