Shocked & Angered!

I watched the local new last night, and I was disgusted when Frank Canata walked away with a small slap on the wrist for his crimes! Probation instead of 81/3 to 25 yrs

I grew up on Grand Island went to school there from pre-K right through my Senior yr...and yes I know the Canata's I went to school with them and Frank's Mom is a Monitor for the G.I. High School which my Nephew is now attending.

I can say Frank was a super guy, wonderful person...etc and it would be the truth he was indeed all of those things...HOWEVER, that in no way excuses him from the crimes he committed! He broke the law and put the lives of children in danger by having that crap on school property!

What kind of message is this sending to our kids?!? not to mention what is this telling the parents of those kids...tough luck your child goes to school on G.I. and we will not protect them from Teachers or Staff that wish to endanger them by partaking or drugs!?!

My God....we do not allow smoking on school grounds at all, but hey...if you want to use Meth...oh that will be ok!?!

I'm sad and heartbroken that Frank got himself onto drugs...but, that in no way changes the fact that I am disgusted and damn mad that the Law is not setting a better example for the children, parents, teachers and staff of G.I.....and every other School District in this area!

Funny, they teminate a bus driver for discussing current events with kids...but they over look a Principal that does Meth...

It would be a cold day in hell before I ever allowed my child back into that School System!

I'm in no way defending Frank Cannata, but I'm really get sick of this erroneous comparison between Cannata and Julianne Thompson.


Ms. Thompson quit her job; she was not fired. To say she was just discussing "current events" makes it sound like a benign conversation about, oh, the federal deficit or something. Not the case. She was pushing her own pro-life agenda on children and, if she hadn't quit, should have been fired. That is entirely inappropriate behavior on her part.

Moreover, she contacted the media about the incident, trying to make herself into a martyr instead of being honest about what she was really doing: Getting political mileage out of her departure.

As for Cannata, this post includes other erroneous points.

1. The sentencing recommendation for Cannata was 1 year in prison -- not 81/3 to 25 yrs.

2. Cannata was never accused of endangering children by bring that "crap" onto school grounds. There was also never any indication that he took drugs during the school day, as you allege.

3. The district didn't "look over" the Cannata situation. While charges were investigated he was removed with pay; when it was learned he did not even have the right credentials to be a principal, he was suspended without pay. I think that is pretty much where he stands now.

There's truely no way to prove this. Would the children even understand what a "pro-life agenda" is more or less be swayed by it

it isn't "erroneous" at all. Frank had drugs in his posession while on school grounds...therefore he most certainly did endanger children!...period! I don't care if he claims he wasn't high during school hours, never took his stash out of his desk drawer, he can claim til the cows come home, it won't change the facts...splitting hairs isn't what it's about.

When someone does drugs especially Meth they are a danger not only to themselves but everyone around them...and I do speak with knowledge on the subject...I am a Nurse and I do know what I am talking about.

I wouldn't care if what was found wasn't enough to fill a pinkie nail...he broke the law! Not maybe, not kind of...he did it and he should be in jail.

As for Mrs Thompson, she did not quit...she was terminated and whether or not she is pro life or pro choice...I honestly don't care, I have my own person views on that issue...and won't be addressing it here, as I believe everyone has the right to their own opinions on that topic.

As for Frank...I still think...do the crime...do the time!

Like TTF, I too am sick and tired of the lies that are spread on this board about Frank Cannata. This is not the first encounter with over exaggerations and rumors purporting to be facts.

Where do you, Peachess, get your information? Mr and Mrs Thompson perhaps? Rus Thompson dedicated an entire thread on another website using Frank as an excuse to justify the behaviors of Mrs Thompson. The US Attorney and the Judge obviously disagree with all of you.

I know Mr Cannata personally. My children attended Sidway while he was the school principal and I was at the school almost on a daily basis, as I was a class mother and volunteered my time quite often on numerous occasions. I also attend Mass every Sunday Morning to hear him lead the chorus. I make it a point to know all my children's teachers and yes, the school principal.

I never once saw Mr Cannata under the influence of drugs or alcohol on school grounds. And Yes, I would know, as I've held my R.N. license for over 20 years and worked with patients who had chemical dependencies. I also had the unfortunate opportunity to be married to an alcoholic and cocaine/crack addicted individual. I know what drug intoxication looks like, smells like, and tastes like. You can hold up your status as a nurse, but you can't beat my experience in the field.

That said, ... I don't agree with what Mr Cannata chose as an outlet to whatever problems he had that led him down this path. There were obviously other healthier choices he could have made, but unless you walked in his footsteps, don't you dare come in here and start a thread with the intent of spreading vicious lies and rumors about him, me or anyone else. You show me facts, I'll listen, but be prepared to back them up.

As this is only your 3rd post since you became a member yesterday, I have my suspicions of your intentions. Did you join because it offered you an opportunity to trash Mr Cannata on a local website? Or are you here to justify Julianne Thompson's behavior?

Seems incredibly coincidental you are the second person in a week to sign up for membership and the only thing you have to say and post are lies and exaggerations about Mr Cannata, while defending Julianne Thompson .... just like the poster using the name "eleni" did. Ha .. she waited for her 5th post to start her slanderous agenda. ....and "surprise, surprise" both Rus and Julianne Thompson mysteriously have stopped posting precisely at the same time.... wow .. what a coincidence!

Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions and everyone here can come to their own conclusions about eleni and Peachess. I've already stated mine.

Well...I have only one account here...hence I haven't been removed by the Adm. I won't need to remove my child from G.I. as my child has graduated from High School...with Honors...so no need to worry yourself further on that note...

As for the rest of your insults...it's odd I never once had to stoop to insulting you or anyone else or their children for that matter, what a shame you feel the need to attack someones child to make yourself feel hmmm...I guess more important.

Sorry Night Owl, I should have answered your question.

No, He's not teaching. He was suspended immediately upon his arrest and that's where he remains until Grand Island School District addresses this further.

It's a sad story for most of us who knew him personally, through church or through the school district. Most of us, but not all.

I do wish him well whatever happens.

No, He's not teaching. He was suspended immediately upon his arrest and that's where he remains until Grand Island School District addresses this further.

So then he has received his punishement, if he remains unteaching in the school district and is on probation, there is no way to say he has put children in danger any further. (IE- "tough luck your child goes to school on G.I. and we will not protect them from Teachers or Staff that wish to endanger them by partaking or drugs!?! ")
