Is a casino the best idea for WNY ? Even with an unused waterfront just waiting to be developed (minus the politics there)?
C'mon, we can do better in WNY !!

Could happen. But the revenue stream from the casino is like candy to a baby to the "Gabby" cartel. Notice how the amount of jobs are increasing as we talk longer abotu the casino? Notice how the developers want to get thier chunk out of it. If they are gabby's friends they'll get things pushed easier through. These developers might not get things pushed as easily through in buffalo.
PLUS the money. I would like in writting the revenue going directly into an account to lower the cost of our property taxes. No new spending period. NO new nothing. JUST lower school/property taxes minues the cost of hte police seeing we'll have more traffic issues on top of what we have now.
But if you have noticed reading papers latly, casinos cost more than the dollars they generate so I guess over all we shouldn't have one.
If we do I say the state gets no revenue period. Just the town it's in and perhaps the county. UNCLE state can go pound wood for al i care. :) I'm being kind today.

One big problem is that the revenue sharing of the casino deals do not favor the local economy.
Watch the costs of social services rise as well. Where will the revenue come to pay for this ?
Also, the disposable income that will be spent at the casino will detract form our many other venues, e.g. HSBC arena, Sheas, the Zoo, restaurants, shopping, etc. This area does not have an abundance of "disposable income."
Let's be creative, and do something on the waterfront, let's build a Peace Bridge that will help WNY, lets do something with the Aud, etc.
Perhaps THEN we can talk about a casino.
