Don't build casino in Cheektowaga

Did the legislators of Cheektowaga ever consider the type of environment they would create by putting a casino next to a strip club? Did they ever stop to think that some of their neighbors in Depew, Lancaster, Williamsville and Clarence would not want to live so close to a casino and strip club? These venues will breed a different type of culture than we would like to see in our neighborhoods. I encourage residents to act on this now, or the property and community that we've all worked so hard to maintain will be worthless.
I suggest that the Senecas build a casino on their own land, create jobs for Native Americans and operate a shuttle service to ferry people from other areas to and from the casino. With the money they earn, they can create schools and programs that will surely help all people living in their community. It would serve as a model.
One casino in Niagara Falls is close enough. Travelers will not flock to Cheektowaga just to gamble, and an entire community will be tarnished in the process. The deal made by the Senecas and New York State was primarily the work of Gov. George Pataki. That deal needs to be restructured. The administration should work with the Senecas and iron out a pact that will work for everyone.
