Here it is, mid September, and I still don't know if my bloated assessment is 'official' nor have I received a bill for school taxes yet.
I don't carry an escrow on my mortgage.
Anybody know what the deal is?
thanks.

ours went up along with a very hefty re-assessment. We are waiting for our new amount to see what we are stuck paying for the rest of our lives if we stay in cheektowaga. It's sad how our local leaders can't control labor costs.

I'm in the same boat, no bill, no escrow and very curious about the re-assessment. I had heard from a neighbor that the assessments were going to be thrown out. Hopefully he heard that from a good source.

I've heard nothing 'official' but my brother's wife- who works with Lee C (or with a relative of his) said they were thrown out. Whether or not that's Official I don't know.
And it certainly doesn't explain why I haven't see a tax bill yet.

The tax bill came today...due 10/17, using this year's assessment. Time for legal action.

What are you assessed at, per square foot?
I don't buy the cost of gas as a justification? Why?
Let's see here....in a letter I got for my son, it reads "Grades k-6 may walk up to 0.1 miles to a bus stop, and grades 7-12 may walk up to 0.2 miles to a bus stop"
0.1 miles is 528 feet. That's not much more than five front yards. OK. Little kids, I buy it. 6th grade? You gotta be kidding me.
Now then...7-8 grade gets bussed seperate from the HS. 0.2 miles is about a block. My son is dismissed from Aurora at 2:30, on the bus he gets home around 2:55. I live near Como Park.
He can walk and beat the bus by ten minutes.
HS? Funny, I see kids walking more than 0.2 miles walking up Central Ave from their parked cars. Why can't HS kids walk more than 0.2 miles? And you wonder why so many of the buses are half-empty. God forbid the government mandates a 15 minute mile from these kids to graduate- by these bussing standards, they'd all drop dead from exertion.
Yeah. I'm a pessimist.
