City officials are truly entertaining

8/25/2003

I was quite amused by the three-ring circus that took place in Buffalo recently. First was Council President Jim Pitts criticizing Councilwoman Mary Martino for not doing enough to help the residents of Hickory Woods.
His "I am going to roll up my sleeves and get to work for them" comment was a joke. Where has he been for the past two years? And where was he when the city sold the contaminated land in the first place? As Council president, he should have been leading the charge to help these families when it was first discovered the land was contaminated.

Next, Mayor Anthony Masiello sent out a 15-page book full of color graphs and charts telling people why he is not at fault for the condition of the city. Horse hockey! He is utterly responsible for this condition. To blame unions, shrinking tax base and lack of Albany support is reprehensible. If Masiello is not in charge of the city, why does he get his paycheck? This mailing is nothing more than a pass-the-buck attempt by a lame mayor.

Then came the Seneca Nation. Masiello is chasing the Senecas like they were the only girl at an all boys' school. A casino will bring nothing to the city. The key to revitalizing this city is jobs, not casinos. Masiello is wasting time and money courting the Indians.

Furthermore, how long do you think it will be before the Senecas open smoke shops and gas stations on "Indian land" next to the casino? They have already said that is their goal.

That above quote makes me think Masiello is actually the befuddled manager in the Dilbert comic strip.

Life imitating art........ :D

The people on this board are very dis-respectful of the people doing thier best to make WNY a good place to live. You should be ashamed at some of the comments that are made here. It's this negativity that makes thier jobs harder to succeed at.

Buffalo needs to stop looking for county, state & federal bail outs... The city needs to get off thier a$$ & start fending for themselves. This is the way the world works. You cannot expect everyone else to constantly bail you our of your own mistakes. The city needs to stop looking for everyone else to help them out while they sit on thier a$$'s doing absolutly nothing to help themselves. The city needs to start looking at thier own problems thier own corruption. Find way's to save money internally instead of spending billions on other companies & reviews to find a way to save a couple cents...

A guy in a coma with the plug about to be pulled on him could do a better job than the political hacks in charge. If you can't see that, then the brain-drain problem in Buffalo and Erie Co. is much worse than has been reported up to this point.

If that's the best they can do, they should have the integrity to resign from office, or the public should finally wake up and vote them out of office.
