First, What Americans Were Told:

"Well, the Office of Management and Budget has come up with a number that's something <b>under $50 billion</b> for the cost [of the war/rebuilding in Iraq]. How much of that would be the U.S. burden, and how much would be other countries, is an open question." - <i>Donald "Nostradamus" Rumsfeld, 1/19/03</i>"On September 15th, 2002, White House economic advisor Lawrence Lindsay estimated the high limit on the cost to be 1-2% of GNP, or about $100-$200 billion. Mitch Daniels, Director of the Office of Management and Budget subsequently discounted this estimate as "very, very high" and stated that the costs would be <b>between $50-$60 billion</b>.Now the Actual Total Spent (So Far): <b>$189,141,365,380</b>, or $1,643 for every household in the United States... with no end in sight.

However, Mitch Daniels, director of the Office of Management and Budget, has remained firm in his belief that future audits will show that Iraqi reconstruction costs are overblown. He has somehow managed to only contribute $202.05 to the reconstruction effort, his share of a $60 billion dollar operation.:)

and that is the rub.

A lot of the posters on this board have been brain washed into believing anyone against what's going on in Iraq must be a democrat or a liberal that just hates bush on principle. what they fail to understand is there are a great many conservatives that don't like what's going on in Iraq because it its bankrupting this country both economically and diplomatically .

Being the leader of the free world is something these short sited people take for granted because its always been that way (at least since they have been alive). Real thinkers realize that very few countries have been able to claim that title long and the first step to losing that title is always either economics or lack of trust from other nations.

We have lost so much credibility with the rest of the world and this is costing this country so much in terms of revenue I really fear we have started down that path.

The numbers alone should tell them that it's not just "libs" that oppose the war. Polls show big drops in support, and I polls I've seen don't just talk to Democrats, i.e. "libs."
