I can't understand how they can raise an assessment on a commercial property 100% in a one year span
No wonder they are contesting it..............

That really seems very unfair. I think $24,000 a year seems expensive. What services does CVS get for that money? If that CVS was opened up in lets say a more business friendly state what do you believe the property taxes would be?

I'm guessing you think $50,000 is pretty high for 2008 then.
Those are school taxes. No services.

And then how much more do they pay on top of that for property taxes?

What services does CVS get for that money? They get educated kids, who, in turn, become educated consumers. Educated Consumers realize that CVS' pricing is high in comparison to their competition.
Bottom line: In the long run, CVS gets less business out of the deal.

so about 24500 + 14500 in operating taxes. $39,000 dollars a year in taxes.
Now if that building was in NC or at the "national" average for taxes what would that amount possibly be?

I don't blame them. I think they should. But leave it to this Town, they'll drive them right out.

well let's see if they need to make an extra $40k assuming a 5% margin on products (after expences), they'd have to have $800,000 in EXTRA SALES! That's a lot of packs of gum!!

Think about it this way.
If they sell something worth 1 dollar. They have to sell 800,000 of them and make a nickle on each? Right? if you had a pile of 800,000 nickles that would amount to $40,000 bucks. Thats a lot of nickles.
Honestly I believe we are being so screwed on the value we get back on the taxes they force from us.
I do agree with goody.. It is the "government" (label it anything you want) against "the non-government" when it comes to money. They are not different than us "the non-government" people but they seem to believe it's ok to be shield from the economic downturn. All the non-government people salaries will go down but they are shielded from it. WHO came up with that ****?

Simply put the government is the enemy of free enterprise. It's only purpose is redistribution through employment and entitilement, period.
Yet there are those that defend this. Why, because they work for the machine at the expense of all of us.
