why would BRAC concern themselves with the impact on the community? These guys are positioning to enhance the military, not our community. To claim WNY needs the airbase for our economical reasons isnt going to save the day.

they aren't going to talk about the economic need for the base, they're going to try to convice them keeping the base in NF is a better decision for the military.

The base has been identified for expansion for years, and even this recent list of closures did not include NF until the very end when some late decisions were made.

Hundreds Greet BRAC Commissioners
WBEN Newsroom - Monday, June 27, 2005 07:52 AM

Niagara Falls, NY (WBEN) - Hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of supporters lined the roads leading to the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station this morning, in a massive show of support for the military installation.

Four members of the federal Base Realignment and Closure committee toured the station this morning, and were greeted by supporters holding signs along Lockport and Packard Roads.

The supporters are trying to convince the BRAC commissioners that Niagara County's largest employer is vital not only to the region, but to the country's military strength, as well.

The commissioners will also hold court at a hearing at U.B.'s Amherst campus this afternoon. They are expected to hear from dozens of speakers, including local Congressional representatives Tom Reynolds, Brian Higgins, and Louise Slaughter, and U.S. Senator Hilllary Clinton.

The commission's job is to go over the list of military base closings suggested by the Pentagon, and forward their recommedations to the President later this year.
