Do the trucks have two sides in the back? One for garbage and one for the recyclables?

I just asked. The person who recorded this said there has always been two trucks.

I"m just curious. What is the hourly + benefits for that job?

The DPW supervisor told the news that their other truck was broken, hence the need to throw all the trash into one truck. Unless someone has a better idea, this makes more sense than letting those bins sit curbside for another week or two.
The news even sensationalized the guys recklessness in "tossing" the bin back to the curb-aghast! In Kenmore they're expected to alcohol-wipe the bin before carefully placing it back on the resident's porch.
As for the section 8 window peeper with a camcorder, this must be the highlight of your boring, pathetic life. Ever consider making a snuff film featuring you as the star?

That "section 8 window peeper" is my brother. I'm a little confused as to why you call him that. Are you trying to be witty? He lives in a regular old Kenmore house. Should he live in a McMansion? And he filmed it because this wasn't the first time it happened. We're all being urged to recycle.

Oh please, it's Kenmore. They'd be cited and fined. :D

I would assume that they are similar to other municipalities. For a garbage truck you would have the title of a Motor Vehicle Operator to drive the truck and maybe Laborers to dump the garbage into the truck.
Motor Vehicle Operator....approx. $28,000
Laborer .... approx. $20,000 - $22,000

And how many hours of actual work is that? I have heard some departments get to leave early if the routes are done early.

res, I would assume that it would be for 40 hrs/wk. I am not aware if they are allowed to leave early if their routes are done early

That is no lie. I had a tenant do a "dine and dash" in the middle of the night. We called the village because there was TONS of garbage - more than "allotted". They assured us it would be fine. Put it out. Nope....police were called because of all the trash.
But I would rather be in Kenmore than in a lot of other places in WNY. When showing said rental, there was a problem with some prospective tenants going to the house @ 8 pm, trying to get into the shed, knocking on the other tenants doors to be let in. In about 2 minutes there were 3 marked cars and one unmarked car. You do not get that in the COB.

Actual work? There is a public perception that civil servants are tax eating slackers that should be relegated to conditions equivalent to that of an indentured slave.
I think 3-4 hours of "actual" work is what's expected from a laborer position like this. If they hustle their route, let them go home. A straight 8 hours on a job like this would cost the taxpayers more in lost work time due to injuries, and comp payments. Those minus 7 degree days must be a pleasure, as well as those 90 degree days. Couple that with diesel fumes, the constant stress of dodging reckless drivers, and walking through a steady stream of acrid toxic juice that drips from the back end of the truck...

Yes actual work. How many hours minimum do they work. I'm not saying it's easy work, it's lifting items up and dumping them. I see how some people put their trash out. It can be a complete pain for the guys picking it up.
I'd like to know what the final payout per hour of actual clocked time is.
Is it possible to put in on average 4 hours a day X 5 days = 20 hours = $20,000 plus any benefits? I don't know so I need to ask.

You mean they are only rolling the heavy stuff?
The guy earlier said it was hard work. Rolling ain't lifting. Rolling is rolling. How heavy would the blue bins be at most? Do people pile up trash next to the blue totes?

January 6th, 2009, 09:59 PM
If the totes were 100% full how many trips max would there be during 1 day of trash pickup? how many stops is that truck responsible for. I wonder if we compared them to the guys in cheektowaga or any town what could we learn.
