So who listened to Ward on Beach yesterday. Sound pretty smart compared to some of the cronies we have now.
I wonder if he would go though the County water department and fire all the dead wieght. THere's supposed to be PILES of useless hires there.
Anyone catch his thought on Lincoln Navigators as perk cars?

The hard thing about patronage is how do you tell that 65 year old grandmother that you will not hire her grandson to be a garbage man after she work her fingers to the bone for 10hrs a day 7 days a week to get you elected , because she belived in your message.
she has the never to call in a favor.

Let them know up front if the jonb isn't needed it's not going to be there.
Remember the goverment isn't an employement agency. They should only hire who is needed and that's it. You don't see local business poeple hiring bodies to just sit in offices with nothing to do. DON'T throw at me, well private businesses hire thier family either. It's thier money to spend as they see fit, my tax money is my money no matter how elected officials want to look at it. We want it spent wisely.
Can giambra peddle a bike? Lincoln Navigators are too costly. A $15,000 Kia would work fine. If they use the excuse, well we need to impress other officials that visit the city, tell them we are efficent, learn from it.

If you can help a friend out or help someone who has helped you
in the past you do it. PERIOD. Don't give me your a super human patronage killing machine because nobody is. It is human nature to take care of people that take care of you.

sb? You mean it's ok to hire someone that isn't even qualified for the position? And patronage is an accepted way of spending our money?

"The hard thing about patronage is how do you tell that 65 year old grandmother that you will not hire her grandson to be a garbage man after she work her fingers to the bone for 10hrs a day 7 days a week to get you elected , because she belived in your message."
She should be working 10hrs a day 7 days a week AT A JOB THAT GETS HER A PAYCHECK, not for a politician that is going to give her taxpayers assets once elected. The message she believes in is "Now I'll be on the inside, feeding at the trough!!!".
That's called corruption. Those days are over. That's what the control board is here to fix. It seems that you genuinely don't see anything wrong with what Grandma is doing.
That is exactly how the South Buffalo political machine operates, and now it will be cut off at the knees by the control board by killing its source of funding. It's about time.

can anyone tell me why Dan Ward ISN'T just another democrat who will water down any attempt at true reform in the city/county?
A read his statement at
http://www.ecdems.com/news052003.htm
and it seems long on stating what Giambra wasn't allowed to do because of democrat obstructionism and short on any specifics at all.
Nothing about labor relations, specific programs to be cut, etc...
Sure sounded friendy though!
We don't need a nice guy or a democratic party man. I think Dan is more of the same. Some people not only know it, they are counting on it.

I am not condoning it. Not saying it is ok just to give someone any job. But it happens just like I said. Like I was talking about in another thread I have some friends in sanitation. That is how they got their jobs. A relative was a secaratary to somebody and got them jobs tossing garbage. It's not like being put incharge of the entire parks system.
Like the saying goesn " It's not what you know , It's who you know"
You are selfemployed. I' sure you " network" isn't that a form of patronage?
You know there are so many city workers in SB not because of being politically connected, It's because it's a nice part of the city that people still want to live in.

We are living in South Buffalo. We are active in political issues and are not looking for a patronage favor. Once you take a job like that, you lose your freedom to your own opinion.

SB "You are selfemployed. I' sure you " network" isn't that a form of patronage?"
Yes i'm self employeed but we do not network based on patronage. We network to get a quality product at a reasonable cost. Any smart business man will not sacrafice thier company just on behalf to deal with someone through a patronage view. I hope i worded that correctly.
THere are companies we deal with that are slightly more costly for thier services but there services are better than what you would get by saving 5%. But then again we do not buy a product from someone because of patronage and let it sit in inventory and lose money on it. That's what patronage is in WNY. You have a product that is over paid for to start with and the service from that product is not needed. It's just a drain on the community.
Anyone here that reads this message board that got a job in local politicis and really doesn't have anything to show for thier services are just thieves. Any politcian that takes a job that is really part time and tries to BS people that it deserves a full time pay is a thief too. A lot of the elected officials do very little work acutally for the amount they are paid.
Plus don't forget that is our money. Period. I don't care how anyone has brainwashed the elected officials in believing it's "Thier" money to spend anyway they see fit.
There "should" be some responsibity/accountability on thier part to spend the tax money in the best interest of the people paying the taxes.
Wait, i was almost self defeating there. THere "will" be accountability on how our money is spent. That's why I started this website. :)

Buffalo family,
"Once you take a job like that, you lose your freedom to your own opinion."
But as regular citizens aren't we really losing our freedom of opinion when it comes to talking to the political oficials... especially if we disagree with their proposals.
How many of them really, really care to listen (with understanding) to the citizens they're suppose to support?
Thankfully, we have a safe haven like this forum to focus our opinions and I pray the elected officials have opportunity to see here just what people really think.

They'l have to post. They have to start telling the residents why they make sometimes these terrible decisions that are ruining WNY.
They have to held accountable. If they expect use to be accountable when we pay taxes then they will be too on how it's spent.
Are you not tired of all the smoke and mirrors? It's almost like we have a mob in office.
