A scoping session to outline possible environmental impacts from Buffalo Crushed Stone's proposal to mine another 39 acres at its Bellevue quarry will be conducted May 17 at the Bellevue Fire Hall.
Town of Cheektowaga officials had offered to host the session today in the Senior Citizens Center, but the state Department of Environmental Conservation scheduled the meeting in May.
Buffalo Crushed Stone wants to mine the isthmus inside the confines of the quarry off Como Park Boulevard to extend the life of the quarry by 20 years. The company would move its rock crushing and asphalt facilities from the isthmus to other locations within the quarry.
The DEC has determined the proposal would have significant impacts on the environment and is requiring the quarry to complete an environmental impact statement. The scoping session is being held to collect information on the issues that should be addressed in the environmental impact statement.
