Uncertain County Future Prompts Political Newcomer
Kris Powers to Seek Ray Duza’s Vacant Seat in Legislature.
Depew, NY -- April 5, 2005 -- The uncertain Erie County future has driven newcomer Kris Powers to announce his candidacy for the District 8 Legislature seat, now held by Raymond K. Duza , who is retiring at the end of the term. Kris Powers plans to gain community wide support as the non politician that will be accountable to his constituents. Powers plans on running as a Democrat and is seeking authorization from the party to do so.
“I am enthusiastic about getting involved” stated Kris Powers, a resident of Erie County District 8. He continued, “County government needs a new perspective, one that has a fresh take on our fiscal situation” Kris also stated “ No one knows what our Legislature will face next year, but I will be asking the tough questions regarding the budget and giving us solutions rather than excuses.”
Powers said many residents fear the uncertain future will bring increased taxes, higher fees, and loss of services. Concerns regarding services include lack of a library near by, having less Sheriff patrols, unsafe roads, and closed parks to mention a few. Having Legislators that are more accountable to their communities will help in securing a clear future for Erie County.
Kris Powers is a 1995 graduate of Maryvale Highschool, he attended Buffalo State College for Business Studies. Following high school and through college Powers worked his way through the ranks at a local supermarket. Powers then engaged his natural entrepreneurial spirit and opened and operated a restaurant in Depew ,NY for four years. Powers has since left his business and now holds the position of Operations Manager with a successful local food retailer. Powers has been responsible for budgets, spending plans and forecasting throughout his entire career and is confident in his fiscal abilities.
